To be fair except for that misplaced pass when he was in front of the defense, he played rather well. Pogba and Vidal are seriously under performing though.

I wouldn't say he played well though. The midfield which is their greatest strength has been anonymous in large part. Vidal playing very poorly and Pogba being pretty poor has masked a subpar performance by Pirlo.

In the knockout stages Pirlo was their worst mid IMO.

Pirlo has a very unique set of skills but against Barca they are negated somewhat and his lack of defensive ability and pace can get you hurt on the counter or when Barca construct attacking moves

Typical UCL refs would have ruined this game after 10 mins with red card to Vidal and penalty. Chiellini badly missed, he would get away with his tricks

Al should've used 3-5-2, Pirlo is useless.

For the second half I'd sub out Pirlo and Vidal(walking red card) and sub in Ogbonna and Pereyra...3-5-2
Won't work nearly as well as Chiellini-Bonucci-Barzagli but still better than this.

Thanks. There are certain games that he can be indispensable but I don't see it as a good matchup against Barca's team. He can still produce those one or two decisive moments but if you're down 2-3, what's the point?
