First of all, you may wanna sound less vitriolic - it is painful to read through your post.

As to the content, vaguely you are trying to say something like - we aren't making a profit, therefore we must fire Galliani since he manages the club.

This is where the thinking is classic corporate knee-jerk. Football clubs can't be managed that way. There's a component called 'fans', which makes or breaks a club. And fans want disproportionate investment and success. Otherwise, they'll stop supporting the club. Success often comes with financial losses, particularly when your club is based in a country where football is not a profitable business. And on top of all this, you can't guarantee success in football by even buying the most logical players suited for your team. It is always unpredictable, and the most unexpected teams may win trophies.

Therefore, how do you factor in all this and how do you make a fair evaluation of the management?

There will be multiple views, but two things will stand out.

1. As we were discussing, success. If the club has done reasonably well without incurring debilitating financial losses, the management has succeeded. Say your rolling horizon is 5 years. Milan have won 1 Champions League and 1 Scudetto among major trophies. That is pure and simple success.

2. Brand value. Now this is where your work on satisfying your fans tells. If the club's brand continues to remain strong and diversely followed worldwide, that's good work. In the last 5 years, Milan have spent very little money. And yet our brand continues to be strong as per the league tables, behind the two Spanish clubs and 2-3 EPL clubs worldwide. We are adding more and more sponsors since we hired Infront to manage our brand, and the sponsor-list is easily the best in Italy.

Now look at the teams you are comparing Milan with. All the EPL teams have a wonderfully profitable league and a large global captive audience to bank on. Both Spanish teams get unsecured loans at incredibly favourable terms. Bayern have a bustling league with people willing to spend and a good stadium.

Italy has done virtually nothing to support clubs in any way, relative to the above stories. Building stadiums won't be supported by Communes, since they get profits from the stadiums they lend out to the clubs.

Despite this, Milan continues to be strong in brand and successful on the pitch. This simply wouldnt have been possible without a crafty and politically astute manager like Galliani. Despite spending really little over the last 5 years, he has built a reasonably competitive team and kept the fans reasonably happy.

Cut-price deals and acting on market opportunities is exactly what an Italian club needs at present, and Galliani is the best at doing so - as he has shown over the years. Even so recently with Ibra, Nocerino, Boateng, Cassano...

Judge a manager by the climate he's working in, the resources he has available, and the correct metrics for his results. Not by dropping terms like 'nepotism' or by having arbitrary profit figures that you demand from the club.

A real golden post for a change.

Hey I made it to Golden Posts!! :star:

Thanks :star:Ashish..let it be known to future generations (who will run the forums when :star:David is like 75 or something? Curious.. ) that there was a HERO called Corzitron. Who fought valiantly for the Independence of the 13 rebelling colonies of the RBF Union, alongside his sardonic sidekick, Kuj. :proud:

Let it be documented for them, so that in 2105, while viewing this forum's archives stored in the tantaline holographic cells, those Milanisti of then will understand and appreciate RBF's rich history.
