What I suspected is happening, all the hyping is getting to him as he seems nervous and unsure. He had a bad game but he's gonna need time to find his place in this team. He plays in a very exposed position, especially in Pioli's risk taking system.

Remember that Kessie and Bennacer had vey shaky starts in this club. I'm not worried about Tonali as the talent is clearly there, he just needs time, a good mentality and good coaching.

maybe we should be worried
what made bennacer break throuh was his mentality and the fact that he takes risks
This Tonali seems very nervous and shy on the ball

He just doesnt suit a 2 man cm, as I said previously. Would look better in a 4-3-3 playing alongside someone like bakayoko as an anchor

Like I said tempo is still slow. Needs to play with more urgency and improve his decisions. Like someone mentioned kessie needed time which is true, but only difference is kessie was still extremely effective player. Brescia speed won't cut it here.

Either he gets his head into gear or bakayoko will be a milan player next year.

I'd rather have the latter for our system.

Bennacer was way worse until December/January last season.

He conceded 3 or 4 penalties in his first 2 months.

Yes he had a terrible game but the basics are there, he just needs to get his head free and his shit together. It looks very much like a mental thing. Maybe he is a village king type of player but he deserves several months to prove the opposite.

Not great....not terrible either...just raises eyebrows given the price tag.

but bennacer was not great in his first months either...look how he turned out.

and bakayoko lol...its better to not talk about that guys first few months here.

It takes time for people to settle.

I hope he'll regain his confidence to ask for more ball, improve his positioning and make himself open for passing. I'm still craving for that juicy passing from him

agree. when we had possession, he was hiding behind opponents too much for my liking. at times, he does have that explosiveness when defending/attacking.

Bennacer wasn't that bad, he was just too aggressive and a bit reckless. Still useful.

Tonali looks similar to Baka's first months indeed, that's why I'm not giving up on him yet. But it's not wrong to point out he was shit

He's young, he just stepped in Milan from Brescia. He makes too many mistakes now, he's nowhere near Kessie in terms of security.

He will improve in time, after getting more minutes and more matches.

He had a full season at Brescia though, it's not like he's coming from Primavera

Yep. Maybe he needs more confidence and it will come in the next games. He will get minutes for sure and he should improve.

Its not like he played good football there, most of Serie A small clubs play a slow and farmer football. There is difference in Milan.

Give him one full season. We may regret it later if we sell.

10m loan fee.
An additional 15m-25m if he's purchased.
2m net salary(more than Bennacer's, almost the same as Kessie's).

That's a large investment.

The club picked him instead of Bakayoko, or a DM who's proven in a double pivot system.

They picked an expensive youngster as backup to the young starters.

They picked a player who looks incompatible with Bennacer as a midfield duo.

Tonali might be and hopefully is a good investment in the long run, but I think it's safe to say he isn't the midfield addition we needed this season.
