For those people who have been saying Atalanta deserve champions league, these jokers have already started making plans to sell their best players like Illicic, Castagne and even Zapata if rumors are to be believed. This is why I don’t support small teams going on novelty experiments in the champions league.

While they probably waste a spot in the CL for Italy, Milan misses another year in the long climb back to the European elites.

We really need champions league otherwise the cycle continues

Yeah, the only clubs in Italy that can/want to be competitive in Europe are Juventus, Milan and Inter... Lazio, Roma, Atalanta will always be mediocre... while Napoli is somewhere inbetween

And even when I look beyond the results: we're not playing better than last year or expressing an improved football style compared to last season. We haven't made any improvements. There is no single player bar Baka that has significantly improved under or thanks to Gattusos coaching ideas. No one.

1. to say if league has got more competitive or regressed, we have to see how much teams like napoli, juve, inter, roma and lazio changed who all have less points than previous year.

i agree we are playing badly compared to when he started last season(and start of this season). we haven't just been inconsistent, we have allowed ourselves to get down streaks of negative results which should be unacceptable for team with CL place ambition.

there has been clear improvements in lots of players since he took over. last season, almost all the squad progressed under him. most notably hakan.
this year after first few matches lots of players regressed. suso, hakan, higuain and rr(second half) most notably. there have been improvement on baka, roma, donna, abate, zapata, mauri both times he played and borini.

As opposed to Milan who are making plans to keep them? There's the same type of reports coming in for both clubs.

And get off your high horse, novelty teams? That's fucking Milan for the past 10 years, and unlike Atalanta we did spend more money and play more shitty football.

What makes a top club is money these days, and it has been that way for the past 3 decades at least. Atalanta have a good strategy to grow as a club, and they have been doing it consistently year after year.

You can't expect them to become Barcelona over night.

I'd say Seedorf benefited from joining in the middle of the season rather than from the start.
The squad was so weak and so injury-ridden that the questionable players who arrived in January(Rami, Honda, Taarabt, Essien) were all much-needed. There were also player returns from injury, like Pazzini who immediately outperformed Matri.

Seedorf's winning streak began after crashing out of CL and the Copa by losing all 3 of the games. He didn't have to deal with the 8 CL play off and group stage games of first season half.

He won 35 points in his 19 Serie A games.
This is good. It would lead to 70 points in a full season, IF he could keep the points avg.
Big IF. Because Milan typically peaks in the 2nd half of the season.
For comparison, Rino acquired 39 points in the second half(19 games) of last season. That's 78 points if he can keep it up for a full season, which he obviously didn't.
We've had a relatively good second half this season as well. 37 points in the last 19 games. That's the same points avg as 74 points in 38 rounds.
But the most we'll get is 68 points...

With that said, Seedorf's incistence on 4-2-3-1 played a great part in the improved results.
It's the one thing I really liked about him as a coach, because it clearly was the best way to fit De Jong and Monto together and make the most out of a squad that had many wingers and CAMs and not a single proper B2B mid.
But this was ironically also why Silvio went from being the guy who hired him, against Galliani's wishes, to being the one who wanted to get rid of him the most. "4-3-1-2 Kaka CAM or GTFO!"

This is my biggest gripe, fair enough if they built on what they have but they never will and they have a stadium to pay for

I think Leo did an alright job, and i would be sad to see him leaving..but the last bit from CorSera gives me hope.

It would seem like they have a plan to take Milan back to the top, just not with an all Milan legends board. Now while that's not how i would like it, i don't particularly care who get the job done, as long as they do it.

What makes a top club is money these days, and it has been that way for the past 3 decades at least. Atalanta have a good strategy to grow as a club, and they have been doing it consistently year after year.

You can't expect them to become Barcelona over night.

We kept our best players despite not having made the champions league recently and we will do so again. Heck we added top notch talent in Piatek and Paqueta even in our mediocrity.

If we made the champions league we certainly won’t be selling many of our best players like they would and that’s a fact.

TBF and unfortunately this was expected. Leonardo is a superstar SD who wants to deal with the best players and agents in the game aiming high. At the time he was hired, maybe the vision wasn't clear for Elliott where to go with Milan. And after they decided to go with u23 route, Leonardo didn't share the ambition of the club.

This might be juvemedia trying to shake things up before next weekends decider but we will see.

Hopefully the club can keep Maldini...
