This would be my choice.

Starting line up :dida,kala,maldini,nesta,yanku,pirlo,kaka,gatu,french guy,sedorf,oli

And place them like this :

------------------------------- Dida--------------------------------
-----------------------kala-----maldini---- nesta----yanku-
--------------------------------gatu----------------
-----------------------------------pirlo--------
-------------------------french------------------sedorf
---------------------------------kaka----------------------
--------------------------------oli------------------------------

Including all injuries that are still going to be there this would be mine

---------------Dida/Kalac------------
-----------Kaladze---Maldini/Nesta--------
--Brocchi--------------------------Janku---

----------------Rino----------------------

--------Seedorf-------Gourcuff----------

---------------Kaka--------------------

----------Gila/Inzaghi--------Oliveira
Btw Kalac + Maldini aren't first choice...i just can't see Dida + Nesta being bakc in team..Esp when Dida might still need surgery.

Hmm.. celtic did play "okay" in their group(even though copenhagen beat the sheit out of them! :D YAY!)

I'm an optimist, but i won't believe anything until the final whistle blow!

I really like this thread's heading, "Milan vs Celtic, a relief?"

In a way, yes! I was wishing for the worst possible opponents and Celtic definitely fits this quite well. You must, however, remember their spirited display against Manchester ... something we seem to lack at the moment. Hopefully, a determined side (considering our recent results) would show up and play the football we all miss.

I fear some complacency might creep in though ... which wouldn't have been the case had we faced more opulent opposition. This draw though, has the potential to give the squad a much needed moral boost and resume our 'European performance' to the standards that we are known of.

A defeat, in contrast, would finally symbolize an end to an empire that should have won much more than they did.

Is it a relief? We'll know once we've played them.

well... Celtic have a good record at home & would likely push for a win or draw... they however have a bad away record so far... but the thing is we don't exactly have a good home record to counter their poor away form... so actually things between us are pretty even...

key point to celtic is
1.no stupid free kicks as nakamura will score
2.slow defence againstpace of miller, hasselink gives aerial power though, both need to be stopped

3weakness IMO is average defence which can be broken dwn

Celtic have a slow midfield prone to mistakes, that's were we can hurt them. If we win the midfield battle then we should get the better of them, however we must avoid sluggish FKs anywhere around the PK box cause Nakamura can hit 'em for bloody 40 yards let alone 20!

Miller's been in sensational form as well. Really matturing this season with the National team and domestically with Celtic. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink is very good in the air and has good control for a big man. I'd compare him to Toni, we definately need to get Nesta, Kaladze or Maldini on board for that match.

Nakamura shoudl'nt just be looked at on deadball's he's also good from edge of the box, he's alot like Pirlo, but better at free kicks + can run, at least a little bit.
Another player if fit that we'd have to watch out for is Maloney, he's about 23 very good player, watched him in Rangers - Celtic derby last year.

celtic are a good side and we must not under rate them. we underrated deportivo a few years ago after we won the first leq 4-1 them lost the second 4-0. to get to the knockout stage in the ecc shows that the side is one of the top sides in europe so we need to be careful. they have a talented side but if we play as well as we can play we should get the better of them. we need to take it one game at a time n get some wins on the trot in the serie a so we can go in the tie with confidence. :)

Celtic isn't the worst opponent and they are defeatable. Nakamura and Vennegoor are the biggest threats I think, but there is a lot of time til the match so that our boys can get in form and kick the s**t out of Scottish boys :)

Hail! Hail!

Great tie for Celtic as well lads and we are certainly looking forward to it. A lot depends on what happens at Celtic Park as, as posted, we do not travel well away from home. Strachan will be looking to bring some players in during the transfer window to put a bit of steel into the midfield and a decent c/half Looking forward to the game and will be travelling over for the tie.

Any chance of a couple of tickets off youse?

Slight relief perhaps but there are no easy opponents, especially for us lately. I hope Milan will give a decent showing and score a few goals...but not own goals.

So far Celtic is hopeless at away games at Champions League, but in their ground Celtic Park, they is as hard as nails. The match will be interesting to watch, especially when Rino is playing at Glasgow.

I admit I don't follow Scottish football. Not even Le Guen managed to raise my interest.. LOL. My guess is they play simple kick + rush type football + as simple as it is it could be hard as hell for our old/slow/out-of-form defense + that Fliegenfänger of a goalkeeper to handle a high ball bombardment. Am I totally off here ?
