United have just bought Nick Powell from Crewe, for 4M apparently. 18 year old midfielder. We beat Spurs to get him.
Anyone know anything about him?
Might as well celebrate anothers misfortune when you'll be playing Europa next year
he sounds shit.
Leeds linked with Owen.
Won't happen, he'd want too much money and seemingly everybody is leaving this summer.
Still, he's probably going to end up in the Championship soon.
Yeah agreed Man City wages are over exaggerated by the press. Your transfer fees are not however, you've spent the most in this area. Another thing is that Man City can just out muscle any other club in a bidding war be it transfer fee and salary. This sort of thing easily effects the market negatively for other clubs.
Sky Sources: Eden Hazard wants to join Manchester United
Take that for what it's worth. It's also been confirmed by Hazard himself that Chelsea are in for him. According to Lille's president (I think) a 4th team has entered the race.
It would be a miracle if we got him considering City are the EPL champions, Chelsea are the CL winners and both clubs can and will offer him far better wages than United.
In what sense though?
I mean, Milan haven't had to overpay for a player purely because City are rich. It would only ever effect you if we entered into a bidding war with you, for the same player, which is unlikely. Even then, ffp dictates that we can't do anything too stupid.
Milan broke the world transfer record 3 times in the late 80's/early 90's, and it was Berlusconi's millions which turned you from a side who were on the verge of bankruptcy (much like City), who had only recently been promoted back to Serie A, to a side who would dominate European football. Practically every top club dining at the top table in European football is culpable for what is happening now. The only difference is, Milan, like many other clubs, are now part of the established order, and what you did is "accepted history".
It will only keep snowballing. In the last 10 years we've had Chelsea, City, PSG, Malaga. In the next 10-20 years they'll probably be half a dozen more, who take it to a new level.
Yes history should "be accepted":
There is no comparison between Berlusconi's Milan and ManC and Ch$lsky.
Every club has it's own history, and Milan were 2 times European champion, and have won some more silverware in Europe before Berlusconi took over.
The team was still quite good, only problem was money, coz former president Farina run away to South Africa with Milan's money. You have to admit that the team thet have players like F.Baresi, P.Maldini, M.Tassoti, R.Wilkins, M.Hartley.....etc was a competitive team without the money. Also, Berlusconi was not buying any players that was around to be bought. His buying were wisely targeted under advise of genius of A.Sacchi. ManU Alex Ferguson is also buying wisely, and having more success, spending less then ManC & Chelsea!
And here is one example: R. Abramovich spent around 1BN, over 9 years to win 1 CL. S.Berlusconi spent less then 1BN over 26 years to win 5 CL !!
And to make the long story short - you cant buy class!
Elitist crap.
So if a club hasn't won anything pre -1980 they should be forced to stay a small club? Do they not deserve a chance at winning anything? Your example is useless too, they're 30 years apart. Of course the spending amounts are going to be very different.
I don't like Man City, far from it. But they're not really any different to any other club that has emerged at the top. They've just done it a time when money plays an even bigger part in football than ever before.

Hahaha it will be Brain Swanson looking on that fake United site on his Blackberry.
if city buy t.silva from us im puttin money on them to win the CL next season

Paddy Crerand( #MUFC reporter) just said on MUTV that Eden Hazard to Manchester City for 38 million is a done deal. #CFC #MUFC #MCFC
Who's this Paddy fellow? And is he reliable?
It's not like Manutd don't spend.
And they're not even in the same bracket class-wise.

pffft
You wouldn't know anything about class anyway
That's a bit elitist.
You're league positions in the the few seasons before Berlusconi came in were 8th, 5th, and 7th. Before that, you had been relegated to Serie B.
Aswell as some great players coming through, you also bought Papin, Rossi, Boban, Savicevic, Gullit, Van Basten, Rijkaard, Lentini, Desailly, Baggio, Laudrup, Weah, Ancelotti, Donadoni, within a 10 year period. Imagine the value of those players in today's market?
You basically did what City and Chelsea have done, and that is spend whatever was necessary to become a successful team, which over a period of time would be able to use that success to be able to financially sustain itself.
And the statement about class. :
What's classy about Totonero and Calciopoli? Sorry not trying to have a dig, but you can't just make throw away statements like that. It's like you think football only began to exist from the moment you started watching it.
^Rudi Garcia, Lille manager said four clubs want him and right after Chelsea won the CL, Hazard seemed to have changed his mind. He didn't name the 4rth club but I'm sure that City are favs regardless.
Also heard that there is going to be a friendly between City and Lille.
