I love this clip/scene from the movie Maradona by Kusturica. Sums up Maradona very well. Afterall, off the field he was not a hero or a superhuman, and never aimed to be. He was flawed, fat, he had troubles, he loved, hate... He was human just like everyone else.

Thanks for posting this Sven.

Edit:

Seeing that vid makes me remember how much I used to love Maradona when I was a kid. Whyyyyyy didn't he play for Milan?? :(

I was 7 years old during the World Cup 1990 final, and Maradona was my ultimate hero then. During the final he got hurt by a German player and they had to carry him out on a stretcher. I started crying and I remember asking my dad if he was going to come back and play. My dad said, "he's the captain son, captains can't get injured, he'll be back soon" :D. And soon enough he was back on the pitch (fuck you Brehme).

Ohh well, trip down the memory lane.

He is the one who made me love football. My HERO!
I feel so lucky grew up by watching him in the field. Started in World Cup Mexico '86. I laugh out so loud when people said Messi can be greater than him. The truth is not even close to equal him. Watch Diego play first, before you rate him. There is no one like him, never will be.

Another champion of skilled movements:-)D) with no character. I saw him play in the WC 94 but he was already finished then. On a footballing level I think he wasn't one of the best. In my books Zizou comes way in front of him.

On a footballing level he is the best despite being a dopehead since the mid 80s... :)

So someone linked me this song

Which reminded me of the program El Ritmo de la Noche (possibly just the latinos in here will remember, not sure if the brazilians will)..., Marcelo Tinelli had some of my favorite shows in the world (videomatch and this one).

Can't imagine someone of Maradona's calibre playing papi futbol like this (and he did it more than once), he even lifts the trophy with passion lol. Awesome mullet

The only reason why i started watching football was cos of diego.... people always bring up 86 and the handball goal... tbh it was a nice goal, i mean for a man of his size to outjump shilton is 1 reason y the goal should stand... well his 2nd goal was probably the greatest goal ever scored. Also to get to the final of italia 90 was a huge achievement, they defeated the brazilians and italians.

Will always respect him as a footballer, Zizou is the only guy who comes close to overtaking him in recent years.

It's one of the best articles about football I've ever read.
Was trying to find an English version but them I figured how ridiculous it would be... Doubt it was ever translated to English

Post here for the Spanish/Portuguese speaking people anyway

I'm not asking for a summary, but what's the conclusion?

It's about Maradona goals against England in the 86 WC, from the pov of and Argentine. Part of it is kind of a moral discussion, though it's a bit pointless, it's the narrative about the goals and his meaning that is really nice here.

U know wot pisses me off abt that 'HoG' goal? Is that nobody talks abt the beautiful build-up play that led to the goal! Its just as pleasing to the eye as his 2nd goal.
