Sime Vrsaljko - the 'new Darijo Srna'
At just 18 years of age, right-back Sime Vrsaljko is already a hot prospect, and his name has been jotted down in the scouting notebooks of Europe's major clubs.

His market value is rising with every match he play,s as he is young and extremely talented, and no doubt his eventual transfer fee will be a high one.

According to transfer rumours, the Dinamo Zagreb management rejected a €4 million offer from Olympique Marseille in August 2010. In addition, some club board members confirmed that Arsenal, Tottenham and Sampdoria are keen on signing the Croatian wonder-kid. According to the latest reports, Dinamo Zagreb want €6-7 million for the young talent.

So who exactly is this in-demand teenager?

Club career

Vrsaljko grew up playing in his native city of Zadar, but his home club NK Zadar couldn't keep him for much longer and he signed for Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb . Many people expected him to sign for Hajduk Split, which is a more of a "natural" move for good players from that part of Croatia. However, Vrsaljko followed in the footstops of Tottenham's Luka Modric, who also moved to Dinamo in his early years, and hasn't regretted his decision.

Vrsaljko played his first senior minutes in the Croatian league for NK Lokomotiva Zagreb, as a loaned player.

In the first part of season 2009/2010 he showed great potential and Dinamo Zagreb wanted him back. Ever since, he has been a regular first-team member and one of the most important players in the Dinamo squad.

International career

Vrsaljko played for all of Croatia's youth sides. He made his youth international debut on April 17, 2007, when he played for Croatia Under 15s in a friendly match against Slovenia.

He was also a member of the Croatian U19 team that reached the semi-final of the 2010 UEFA U19 European Championship in France.

Even though he can still play for the U19 team, Vrsaljko already made his debut for the Croatia U21 team in March 2010 against France.

There is no doubt that Vrsaljko is the future of the Croatian national team and he is sure to be a regular in the senior squad sooner rather than later

Technical skills

Sime has all the makings that decide the difference between average and top players.

• Vrsaljko has fantastic motor skills – He is athletic, agile and has the tremendous ability to change pace and direction while running with the ball. He is also fast and has great acceleration.

• He is a very smart player for his age – Although still just a teen, Vrsaljko is an intelligent player who understands the game very well, can anticipate moves and has excellent decision-making. He knows when to support the attack from his full-back position, when to stay at the back and has the nous to realise when his flank is going to come into play during a move.

• The Croatian also has good technical abilities – He posseses high quality dribbling skills and the excellent ability to go past players easily. He controls the ball superbly at his feet, even on the run, and his touch, shooting and passing abilities all show that he is a talented technician.

• Vrsaljko is an attack-minded full-back with excellent crossing ability – As an offensive oriented right-back who can also play as a right midfielder, Vrsaljko operates a huge amoung on the flank. He has top-class crossing ability, in terms of technique, power and accuracy, particularly for a player of his age.

• Vrsaljko has strong and very precise shooting ability - He has a fierece right foot that, combined with his ability to change direction, gives him the ability to cut into the middle and pose a threat at goal. As a result, opponents often don't know how to mark him as he can cut in and shoot, or burst down the line and send in a cross.

Mentality

Vrsaljko is quite a modest individual who up until now has not had any disciplinary issues or been involved with any confrontations with teammates, coaches or journalists.

He is a very intelligent, well-mannered and well-raised individual.

However, since a very young age, Vrsaljko has lacked consistency. One match he is good, and in the next he can be quite poor. He needs a bit of a stronger mentality in order to overcome that, but that is likely to come with age and playing experience.

Juan Manuel Iturbe - Argentine silky trickster has Europe in his sights
The Argentina U-20 starlet has shown glimpses of his potential with solid Sudamericano U-20 performances.

Buenos Aires-born Juan Manuel Iturbe began his senior career at Paraguayan outfit Cerro Porteno in June, 2009.

13127

He made his debut appearance in the Paraguayan Primera Division aged 16 years old, and managed 11 games for the side in his first senior campaign.

Unfortunately for Cerro Porteno , Iturbe could not sign a professional contract with the club before turning 17, and Argentine outfit Quilmes came in for the player and snapped him up on a free transfer in August 2010.

As he is exactly the same height as Barcelona maestro and compatriot Lionel Messi (1.69m) and shares a similar style of play, he has inevitably been compared with the Spanish La Liga star.

And even though such comparisons are clearly premature, Iturbe has shown precocious skill in his recent performances for Argentina U-20, slaloming to a wondergoal in his side's most recent Sudamericano U-20 victory over Chile U-20.

He has not yet featured for Quilmes, but is currently amidst a successful campaign with his national team as they compete for the Sudamericano U-20 title, having scored twice already in six showings from his midfield position.

As evident in the clip above, Iturbe combines explosive pace with excellent dribbling skills to prove a constant thorn in the side of opposition defenders.

Iturbe was mentioned as a transfer target for Manchester United, Real Madrid and West Ham United early last year.

The Hammers were the most serious, and according to the Daily Mail, offered £2m for the prodigious winger but a move eventually collapsed.

It has recently been suggested that the player has completed a move to Portuguese outfit Porto FC but as of yet there has been no official confirmation
.

Big talent.

I was thinking the SAME thing :D:D

I really wonder, how he would do, so maybe if we fail to sign any creative attacking MF we could just buy him.

Would be so awesome :proud::proud:

The 17-year-old midfielder pushes Schalke into German Cup semi-finals with goal in 119th minute. Fourth youngest Bundesliga debutant of all time.

Schalke appeared destined for penalties in their bid for the semi-finals of the 2010-11 German Cup with a 2-2 scoreline when Julian Draxler was subbed in for Peer Kluge in the 116th minute. But the 17-year-old Draxler would have none of it as the German U18 international blasted home a shot from a good 26 yards in the 119th minute to give Schalke a 3-2 victory – turning Draxler into an overnight hero.

Julian Draxler was born on September 20, 1993 in Gladbeck, Germany. As a 6 year old, Draxler began his football playing in 2000 at BV Rentfort. In the following season he switched to the SSV Buer 07/28 club. And then as an 8 year old in 2001, Draxler moved to FC Schalke 04 and started in their U9 teams before moving up through the youth ranks at the Royal Blues. Draxler, who still attends the Heisenberg Gymnasium school, idolized as a child until age 12 German midfielder Michael Ballack and his current idols are Zinedine Zidane and Rivaldo. Draxler’s younger brother Patrick had played before this season with BV Rentfort and then moved to SC Hassel.

After helping Schalke to the U15 West German title, the offensive midfielder Julian Draxler has played all 12 games this season for Schalke’s U19 team in the A-Juniors Bundesliga West, scoring seven goals. He was also called into the German U18 national team by Horst Hrubesch and Draxler has earned seven caps and scored a goal against Israel

Winter Training Camp, Bundesliga Debut, Professional Contract
Schalke coach Felix Magath rewarded Draxler’s U19 showings with an invitation to the professional side’s winter training camp in Belek, Turkey. Draxler then made his Bundesliga debut on January 15, 2011 against Hamburg, getting subbed in for Ivan Rakitic in the 83rd minute. At 17 years, 117 days, Draxler became the youngest Schalke Bundesliga player of all time, surpassing Rüdiger Abramczik (17 years, 174 days) in the 1973-74 season. And Draxler was the fourth youngest player in Bundesliga history, behind only Nuri Sahin (16 years, 335 days), Jürgen Fridl (17 years, 26 days) and Ibrahim Tanko (17 years, 61 days).

Three days later – on January 18, 2011 – Schalke signed Draxler to a professional contract until June 30, 2014. The contract will not officially take effect until September 20, 2011 when he turns 18 years old.

First Bundesliga Start, German Cup Heroics
Draxler’s whirlwind month continued on January 22, 2011 when Magath inserted the youngster into the starting lineup against Hannover – ahead of 13 million euro acquisition Jose Manuel Jurado and Brazilian Edu. And Draxler even set up – though not granted an assist – the game-winning 1-0 goal by Raul in the 33rd minute before getting subbed out for Christian Pander in the 58th minute.

On January 25, 2011, Schalke were hosting Nuremberg for a spot in the German Cup semifinals. Schalke fell behind 1-0 on Julian Schieber’s goal after four minutes but equalized through Mario Gavranovic 10 minutes later. Schieber made it 2-1 after 32 minutes. Schalke once again knotted the game 2-2 on Ivan Rakitic’s score in the 58th minute.

The game went into extra time and appeared destined to remain scoreless and go to penalties when Magath decided to bring on Draxler for Peer Kluge in the 116th minute. Three minutes later, Draxler collected a ball from Jefferson Farfan right of center, dribbled to his left and then unleashed a left-foot shot from 23 yards to the far left corner for the winner in the 119th minute of a 3-2 a.e.t. victory.

After the final whistle, Draxler could only hold his head in his hands and then dropped to his knees. He would eventually be carried over to the fan curve on the shoulders of teammate Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

Focus On Football, Schooling Over, Praise From Löw

Magath recognizes the talent of Draxler, whose value was listed as 400,000 euro on transfermarkt.de on January 27, 2011, and the coach has convinced the youngster’s parents to allow him to give up school to focus on becoming a professional footballer. “I was able to convince his parents that Julian will play in the top leagues for the next 20 years. He doesn’t need a (academic high school diploma). Julian is a huge talent and has a long career in front of him,” Magath told the Bild daily on January 26, 2011.

Draxler also received some praise from German national team coach Joachim Löw, who said in Bild on January 26, 2011: “He has already proven his potential in the league. That was an unconcerned performance.”

This kid is very good but Milan already have Abate who is also very speedy, defends better by every game and is producing good crosses. So if Abate were to leave or get injured for like a year than milan should definitely consider this kid. I'm talking about that 18 year old rb/rm

Top 100 football wonderkids

1. Mario Götze (Borussia Dortmund):thumbsup::eek::eek::thumbsup::eek::thumbsup::eek::thumbsup::eek::thumbsup::eek::thumbsup::eek::thumbsup::eek::thumbsup::eek::thumbsup::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star:

Hailed by former Dortmund and German star Matthias Sammer as one of the greatest talents Germany has ever produced. His breakthrough season has been nothing short of a fairytale after breaking into Juergen Klopp's side. Flying high at the top of the Bundesliga and making his national team debut at the age of 18 years-old against Sweden, the future looks very bright for the prodigious attacking midfielder. After a number of impressive displays for Dortmund, Götze was quickly fast tracked to the senior national team by coach Joachim Löw. The young playmaker has been instrumental's in Dortmund's monumental rise to the top of the Bundesliga this season. A versatile attacking player who is able to operate behind the main striker or on either flank, Götze has demonstrated excellent technical ability with a good range of passing and superb vision, often opening up opposition with defence splitting passes. Born in Memmingen, Germany, Götze made his debut for Dortmund's under-17 side at the age of 15 years-old. At 16, he was promoted to Dortmund's under-19 side but only managed to take part in 13 out of 26 matches due to injury, scoring eight goals and assisting seven more. He was rewarded with a place in Marco Pezzaiuoli's team at the 2009 U-17 European Championships, which Germany went on to win. His impressive performances in the tournament and at the U-17 World Cup helped earn him the prestigious Fritz Walter gold medal given to the best player in Germany aged 17 or under.

greatest ever

36. Aleksandr Merkel (Milan)
This season the Rossoneri are set to reinvigorate an ageing squad with youth products from the Primavera and one shining light coming through is 18 year-old midfielder Aleksandr Merkel. Born in Kazakhstan to Belarusian parents, Merkel has come through the German youth system having moved there aged six. Impressing for Milan during pre-season, Merkel showed tenacity and a c commendable willingness to dictate the tempo of his side's play even in the presence of such esteemed colleagues like Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso. Showing energy, endeavour and accurate passing there have already been comparisons drawn to Napoli star Marek Hamsik. Having represented Germany up to Under-19 level, Merkel has reportedly turned down the opportunity to play for their under-21 side with the young starlet yet to decide with whom his international allegiances lie. The 2010/11 season is set to be Merkel's breakthrough year and with the midfielder having an eye for goal, he could be prove an influential figure.

Urrrgghhh Stop it with fucking Gotze. Jesus christ. :D I really doubt he'll be close to the 'greatest ever'...

Nice to see Merkel at 36 though.

That wasn't meant to sound argumentative or petty.

I really don't see the 'puberty blues' argument. I don't even see such a thing.. It's not like i have 'puberty blues' or am depressed and so it's just the calling card of stupid, foolish love-lorn teenage girls and melodramatic guys..

Still. Is that Gotze in your avatar? Or Pato? Because it looks similar to Pato but not really, and then i don't know what Gotze looks like tbh. I see it's Pato. Gotze looks nothing like that, although not bad himself in some pics, that's probably Pato's best pic though imo.

I was only playing anyway, still. It's like me saying Merkel or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be the greatest ever...

um dude, according to sage's sig, gotze is the guy whose face you can't see.
how can u say that gotze looks like pato. it's the other guy you're talking about. in any case, how can it be pato that you're seeing? the only way for that to happen is that the pic would have to be doctored...for pato to be "playing on the same team as gotze" the pic doesnt look like it's had any work done. the fact that the players are hugging makes it harder to doctor too.

Matthias Sammer, responsible for the German youth set-up, described him as “one of the greatest talents we’ve ever had”, whilst Bundestrainer Joachim Loew was equally effusive. “… It’s fun watching him play.” Loew said on awarding Goetze his 2nd senior international call-up for this week’s encounter with Italy. “He could definitely become a great player.”

;)

name a 18yr old player that has done as much as him in this year??

20 games - 4 goals - 7 assists :eek::eek:
