Yes and No. Sweden are a good side but lacks a player. On the other hand, watching Ventura's Italy makes you appreciate Montella's Milan.
Also, I hope we never go after Verratti. Dud is good but he keeps behaves like a little sissy.

I'd bet on Sweden to qualify. Italy is really really mediocre. Hanging in there solely due to BBC.

It's not about formation. It's never about formation. It's about movement and utilization of 11 players in an effective way. Ventura has failed miserably in that respect.
This was a team with tactics out of the 1970s after Conte built a beautiful team just a year back.

In general this is true, but in this case I disagree. You can make a functional team out of the current players by switching the formation. That way you have your best player Insigne playing and you don't have two players who are so similar in Belotti and Immobile stepping on each others toes and causing the attack to be dysfunctional. You get a team that is more comfortable on the ball that will actually circulate the ball in midfield instead of the centerbacks.
When you don't have an identity as you say, then the best alternative is to play all your best players, in their preferred roles and trust them to figure it out. It is not ideal, but it is preferred to playing a formation that just does not suit your players and you can't build a functional attack out of.
Yesterday Verratti had to play so high up the field and wait for the ball, when he should be the one seeing most of the ball and dictating the tempo of the game. Who would you rather see more of the ball if you intend to win the game, Verratti or Bonucci?
