I'm happy that Jenson was on the podium again, too bad Lewis couldn't get a nice finish in his 100th GP.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button wrapped up the front row of the grid for the Italian Grand Prix, as Fernando Alonso met problems which left his Ferrari only 10th on the grid.

Alonso had set the pace in Q1 and Q2, but when it came to it he could not better 1m 25.678s on his second run in Q3 after a problem with his rear anti-roll bar.

Hamilton, meanwhile, had been biding his time and picking up pace all through, and his 1m 24.010s was almost two-tenths better than Alonso’s Q1 time. Button was also getting quicker, and popped in a 1m 24.133s on his second run to displace an impressive Paul di Resta who had taken his Force India round in 1m 24.304s. Felipe Massa also pushed the Scot down, taking third in his Ferrari in 1m 24.247s.

Mercedes' challenge could only muster the fifth-fastest time, with Michael Schumacher acing team mate Nico Rosberg, 1m 24.540s to 1m 24.833s. Sebastian Vettel squeezed between them with 1m 24.802s for Red Bull.

It didn’t come together for Kimi Raikkonen and Lotus, as the Finn managed only 1m 24.855s for eighth. Kamui Kobayashi was ninth for Sauber 1m 25.109s, and a very unhappy Alonso 10th.

With Di Resta’s five-place penalty for a gearbox change, the top 10 grid order will be: Hamilton, Button; Massa, Schumacher; Vettel, Rosberg; Raikkonen, Kobayashi; Di Resta, Alonso.

A late lap in Q2 just kept Vettel in Q3 after he’d momentarily been bumped by Kobayashi, so that left Red Bull’s Mark Webber stuck in 11th place on 1m 24.809s from Williams’ Pastor Maldonado in 12th on 1m 24.820s, Sauber’s Sergio Perez on 1m 24.901s, Williams’ Bruno Senna on 1m 25.042s, Toro Rosso’s Daniel Ricciardo on 1m 25.312s, Lotus’s Jerome D’Ambrosio on 1m 25.408s, and Jean-Eric Vergne on 1m 25.441s in the second Toro Rosso.

Force India’s qualifying had begun to become unravelled when Nico Hulkenberg’s VJM05 stopped with a fuel-pressure issue before he had even done a timed lap, leaving him 24th.

As Alonso set the pace with 1m 24.175s, Heikki Kovalainen took his customary 18th place for Caterham with 1m 26.382s ahead of team mate Vitaly Petrov on 1m 26.887s. Then came the evenly-matched Marussia duo, with Timo Glock on 1m 27.039s and Charles Pic on 1m 27.073s. Narain Karthikeyan got close on 1m 27.441s to oust HRT team mate Pedro de la Rosa on 1m 27.629s ahead of his 100th Grand Prix start.

With Maldonado’s two five-place penalties from Spa applied, the grid order from the sixth row downwards will be: Webber, Perez; Senna, Ricciardo; D’Ambrosio, Vergne; Kovalainen, Petrov; Glock, Pic; Karthikeyan, Maldonado; De la Rosa, Hulkenberg.

Qualifying - Hamilton blasts to Singapore pole
Pole sitter Lewis Hamilton (GBR) McLaren celebrates in parc ferme. Formula One World Championship, Rd14, Singapore Grand Prix, Qualifying, Marina Bay Street Circuit, Singapore, Saturday, 22 September 2012 Bruno Senna's afternoon comes to an abrupt end as he clips the wall and does irreparable damage to his rear suspension At the beginning of Q3 a queue of cars leave the pits as the lights go green

Lewis Hamilton and McLaren dramatically turned the tables on Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull in qualifying for Sunday’s 2012 Formula 1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix. Fighting for the Woking team's fourth consecutive win, the Englishman was fastest in Q2, and then put in a lap of 1m 46.362s right at the start of Q3 as Vettel’s best of 1m 47 694s fell short.

Hamilton kissed a wall on his second run, which was nevertheless still quicker, at 1m 46.622s, than Vettel’s subsequent best, but the surprise of the session was a 1m 46.804s lap which left Pastor Maldonado on the front row for Williams.

Behind the Venezuelan, Vettel eventually improved to 1m 46.905s to edge Jenson Button down to fourth after the McLaren driver had improved to 1m 46.939s on his second run. Then came Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, whose hopes of vying for pole took an early tumble from the start of qualifying. The Spaniard eventually had to be content with 1m 47.216s after a single run, which left him on the third row with the impressive Paul di Resta, who recorded 1m 47.241s for Force India.

When the chips were down Red Bull’s Mark Webber couldn’t better 1m 47.475s on his second try, after getting sector two wrong on his first, while Romain Grosjean will start eighth for Lotus with a lap of 1m 47.788s.

The Mercedes of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg will be on the fifth row in ninth and tenth, though neither recorded a Q3 time.

Hamilton owned Q2 from Vettel, 1m 46.665s to 1m 46.791s, with only Webber able to get near them with 1m 47.513s, but Grosjean made amends for a half spin in Q1 by becoming Lotus’s only representative in Q3 as Raikkonen couldn’t improve on his once-fastest 1m 48.261s and thus ended up 12th.

A very late improvement for Schumacher bumped Nico Hulkenberg from the top 10. The Force India driver’s 1m 47.975s left him 11th ahead of the Finn, while behind him were Ferrari’s Felipe Massa (1m 48.344s), Sauber’s Sergio Perez (1m 48.505s), Toro Rosso team mates Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne (1m 48.774s and 1m 48.849s), and Williams’ Bruno Senna. The Brazilian once again hit a wall with his right-rear wheel, and thus failed to record a time.

Late improvements for Ricciardo and Vergne bumped Kamui Kobayashi out in Q1, where Grosjean set the fastest time of 1m 47.688s, the Sauber driving failing to better 1m 49.933s. That was well ahead of Caterham’s Vitaly Petrov, who made up lightly for his FP3 indiscretion with 1m 50.846s, which left him ahead of team mate Heikki Kovalainen on 1m 51.137s. Timo Glock was 21st ahead of Marussia partner Charles Pic, 1m 51.370s to 1m 51.762s, while Narain Karthikeyan was 23rd for HRT on 1m 52.372s ahead of Pedro de la Rosa on 1m 53.355s.

The Spaniard gets a rather redundant five-place grid penalty, while Webber was handed a reprimand for leaving the track twice during his in-lap at the end of Q3. The Australian was also investigated for impeding Glock during Q1 but no further action was taken by the stewards.

of course he has, but like another certain CHAMPION German he'll go to Ferrari and cement his legacy IMO.

Kudos to Alonso though, be competitive for so long in a very under powered Ferrari.

Ferrari, goes in cycles, before Schumacher went there they where down for a number of season.IF Vettel went there in 2014, I'm sure they'd be much more competitive, though you'd think that with Alonso been there. I'm not sure why Red Bull held onto Webber though,I would think they'd have someone more likely to want to back Vettel up,Webber still thinks he can win!

AbuDhabi Grand qualifying...Hamilton wins it for McLaren by 0.348 sec.Webber 2nd,Vettel 3rd.Alonso 7th.

Apparently Vettel will start last(24th) in the final race(sunday) since his red bull was found with less fuel for sampling(0.85 of 1 litre required) which is breach of a certain rule in racing. So Alonso(main title rival) will move ahead and start in 6th position..
