Although there may have been some sentiment attached to awarding Paolo the best defender tag, that with his fifth European Champion's Cup - as many as Liverpool - and a living example as to what an almost perfect footballer should be off the pitch - an ambassador of football if I may, he did play an important role in the eventual winner's path to victory. Missing only one game in the knockout stages + the man behind Pippo's opener (assist) against AEK that kick-started our campaign.

He deserved it in every sense of the word.

But unfortunately, time does move on and a worthy replacement beckons.

^ dont forget his technically flawless display against bayern in munich, when he went thru the entire game without a single tackle.
was always in the right place + right time to intercept the pass. reading the game like that is something that any defender today can only dream about.

Clearly given for sentiment alone, shame really as by doing so it kind of devalues all the other awards. Nesta was so superior to Maldini in the CL its just not true, I don't know what the guy has to do to get the credit he desserves.

you know what happened here? NO CHANNELS SHOWED IT! and so i sat up untill late ( on a schoolnight) to try and catch some rerun or clip pn bbc or cnn or something like that but they only showed the groups :cry:
