Your argument over Matri is pointless, Cellino rejected a 12m + Astori's half card so he can fuck off and Matri can stay at Cagliari.

For me this isn't a argument about Matri, it's about people who want players like Poli, Criscito, Lazzari and Matri (average/mediocre players) to replace our starters.

Players have to prove themselves before they come to Milan. In our current situation with an ageing squad that really needs new starters as soon as possible I want to inject quality.

Buy quality players or quality prospects.

Could someone please post Matri's career stats, as Wiki dont seam to have them. Then we can maybe all make an informed decision on his skills taking into account his previous form... Or is this season just a flash in the pan.

I remember Lentini came to us for a then World record off the back of a decent season and was, well lets not mince our words, he was shit!

All I want to know is whether this is his best season so far or has been consistent over the past season or two?

Is he really worth 12 million to sit on the bench and not really be a threat to our starting forwards or are we better just bringing Paloschi back or signing someone younger, that can develop, as Matri's 26, so should either be in his prime or fast approaching it?

To be fair to Lentini the reason he wasnt very good was because he was seriously injured in a car crash which he barely survived.

Sunday 28 November, 2010 Cassano: 'I might join Genoa!'

Antonio Cassano has threatened to join Sampdoria rivals Genoa or a nearby club. “I want to continue living here.”

The Blucerchiati are in the process of terminating his contract for insubordination following a blazing row with President Riccardo Garrone.

“If I can, then I’d like to continue playing for Samp,” Cassano is quoted as saying in Il Giornale newspaper.

“Otherwise, I may change club, but will stay in this area, maybe even at Genoa.

“I’ll think of a city where it is easy to travel to Genoa, such as Parma, Milan, Florence or Turin.”

This rules out a move abroad, as Cassano had been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa.

His wife is expecting their first child, a little boy, and he wishes to be near to home to help look after her.

It also puts an end to the hopes of southern sides like Napoli, Palermo and his hometown Bari.

Options include arch-rivals Genoa, but also Parma, Milan, Inter, Fiorentina and Juventus.”

No thanks; I want Lazzari for God's Sake ! + Astori + Proper LB

Matri stats for Serie A.

This season, 8 goals and 0 assists in 14 matches [once subbed in]

09/10, 13 goals, 7 assists in 38 appearances [8 subbed in]

08/09, 6 goals and 1 assist in 31 appearances [20 subbed in]

07/08, 6 goals and 1 assist in 34 appearances [14 subbed in]

So he's pretty prolific this term, and was ok last... Is he realy worth 12 million or more though!

You have to understand that it all comes down to team. If the striker doesn't have a decent squad around him, he won't have good stats. Even Ibrahimovic wouldn't have more then 15 goals if he plays for Lecce or Cagliari.

Nope, anything more than 8 million is rubbish. We can get better players for 12m.

Even if we got Matri, he'd be 3rd choice at best. The age thing isn't that big of an issue. Italian strikers peak rather late.

Stop telling me to watch this and that. This is the second time you've done that. I don't share my opinion without having some kind of knowledge.

You may think that Matri is "good" or "above average". But is he good enough for a team like Milan? Like AZ mentioned, he's 26 years old and hasn't done anything special in his career. Why would I (or any one else) want a player like that to play in Milan? 26 is IMO a lot for a striker.

I don't mind having having him as a fourth striker and play him against teams like Bari, Cesena etc, he would be perfect in that role, the question is though if he would accept that.

Moderate to inferior in quality; ordinary = Matri = fourth striker in Milan

You keep making statements that take on the position of a fan who only watches the big clubs. My reaction is natural when someone tries to foolishly call Matri "mediocre"

Below AVERAGE at Milan's first team.. OF COURSE. The role he would be brought in for WOULD BE EXACTLY THAT- to be a 4th striker.

A mediocre footballer? You are out of your mind. If you do actually believe that, then once again I suggest you actually watch some Cagliari matches. He is in the top 10% of players in Serie A. If you are trying to tell me that >90% of players in Serie A are "mediocre" (below average), then it's not even worth my time discussing this with you

Of course, I am also willing to accept that you simply have misused the English word "mediocre" :D

Milan, Oddo for the sirens of Marseille
11/28/2010 by Livio Giannotta

The future of Massimo Oddo could be in France, Olympique Marseille destination. Deschamps's team is in fact looking for a new right-back after the injury would be remedied by Cesar Azpilicueta and specifically looking for a player of experience. This was confirmed by the former coach of Juventus, according to the latest rumors, the leadership had directed their attention to the Alps talerale Milan.

Inter, Mariga offered to Genoa for Ranocchia
11/28/2010 by Marco Platania

McDonald Mariga, the ace up the sleeve of president Moratti to achieve the objectives set by the market. Was first offered to Genoa in exchange for the performance of central defender Moretti now, according to a report in 'Itmsport', the Inter leadership would be willing to give Inter money plus a half of the card of Kenyan midfielder as economic adjustment, for Andrea Ranocchia. The difficulties of adaptation of the Portuguese Miguel Veloso at Genoa, throw open the doors to a possible landing Mariga rossoblù mesh. The negotiations may constitute the reopening of the market.

Yes playing alongside lesser players can stiffle some players, and players can thrive when playing alongside better players... But good players are good players!

If Matri is good enough, then fair enough, but I question whether he is worth 12 million plus half of Astori's card!

I'd rather a 4th striker thats going to challenge our starters for a starting place, push them. Or a youngster that can develop into something special... Or someone cheap, that can still help from the bench, now this sounds like Matri other than the cheap part!

Like I said, I don't mind having Matri at Milan. He's in a good age, Allegri has worked with him before, he's a Milan youth and knows the surroundings. Could be the perfect signing for us if he came to a good price in January.

considering in the past we had strikers of ricardo olieveira caliber and 4th strikers such as christian vieri and amoroso. Matri would be a godlike for them.

Well, let say that, if Ganso will cost us 30M and Mr. G and Braida didn't find the way to reduce the price in Winter Market, then,

I would accept the following players:

  1. Honda ACM/SS
  2. Criscito LB
  3. Extend Seedo, SN and SP contracts for only one year with reduce wages.
  4. Extend Pirlo and Ambro for couple years with reduce wages.
  5. Bring back, On in the Summer market, Astori and purchase Lazzari contract.

I'm pretty sure everyone is in agreement. Matri would be useful to the team. But he's not worth 15 million.

So drop the argument

I just don't buy this Criscito hype. I've seen him very few times I admit , but they were all when he was playing against quality opposition - Milan, Inter, Juve etc and he was never better than average similar levels of Antonini. He might be good against the second tier games, but that doesn't make him Milan quality. Atleast the other LBs we r linked like Coentrao and Cissokko are making thier name after good performance against CL quality CL opposition or International games.

Matri and Astori are not Milan starting 11 players too, but as people already point out, both of em r our old youth team products and will be solid choices as 4th striker and 3rd/4th CB. But when Nesta leaves or if we plan to find a successor to Nesta when he's already here, we need a better quality player.

For our long term problem solving we need

1. LB (Antonini is a god 2nd option not starting 11 quality)
2. AMF ( enough of Dorf starting and Dinho looks set to leave)
3. CB (long term Nesta replacement)
4. CMF
5. Backup striker

I am not putting up names as I believe G will find the best deals available based on the market. No one wanted Zlatan over Dzeko or Robinho over any SS here last summer.

So much sense... But this is a discussion forum so you cant expect folk to all agree

If only a statement along similar lines in the Dinho thread would work, lol ;)

But I agree whole heartedly... 6 - 8 million then ok, but I'd maybe rather just bring back Paloschi and Astori with that cash and see what bargains there are to be had come the Summer.

Say we gonna spend alot next year: 30 millions! Should we then splash out 50 % of this (15 millions) to buy a 4th choice attacker, leaving only 15 millions to buy a new LB and a new AM? I hope not.

Instead make a youth player our 4-5th choice attacker and save the money for a real LB+AM. 10 mil LB and 20 mil AM....

I sincerely doubt we'll win the Scudetto without a 4th striker and an attacking mid in January. As it is, we are essentially relying on Pato, Seedorf, and Ibrahimovic to lead us to the league title...

Ibra is easily the most reliable/best of those three, but we saw yesterday that not even he is invincible... I have absolutely no faith in Pato, TBH. We can be like Galliani and say, "Well, it's like we are signing Pato in January because he'll return!" That is blind optimism at best as we all know he'll be injured within a month of his return + he is a pretty streaky player at the moment. Then, there is Seedorf, who is frankly JUST doing enough at the moment. He's our best option at trequartista because he is really our only option... He really hasn't been very good in recent games but Ibra has been able to carry us.

We can live without an LB and CM in January, but we NEED an AM and a 4th striker, IMO.

Galliani would be blind as fuck not to get players in january, 2 players atleast if he wants Milan to compete for the 3 titles.

people who dont want honda can fuck off, the russian league is done, it would be the perfect time to swoop for him.

I know, but sometimes I dont know if hes serious or just fucking around with the Milan fans/media

I'm gonna believe in G and wait for some classy signings in January, a la oddo/ronaldo back in 2007 ;)

+1, then either bring back Paloschi or pick up a free transfer or Man City/Real bargain 4th striker...

Honda makes so much sense in January...12 million for Matri to sit on bench when Ibra's out, or same on Honda, massive financial gain and he can cover Ibra, Dinho, Dorf, Binho, Pirlo...

€30m for Ganso? Bah, we can get him for much less I reckon.

Anyhoo, regardless of whether we win the league this season, a bit of investment is needed in the summer. Not necessarily getting rid of all the senators and bringing in little kids (as that isn't the Milan way) but making sure that the survivors from the team of 2007 have adequate cover. Two midfielders, centre-back and left-back should be the priority I'd say.

What happened to those rumours about Ranocchia? Granted, Inter have sunk their teeth already but considering Galliani's relationship with Preziosi, we could buy out the remaining 50% of his contract and hope that the Nesta-look-alike opts for the mighty Milan instead. Astori seems like the more likely arrival and while I wouldn't mind him, Ranocchia seems like a more complete centre-back.

Yep.
Cass would do too.

Galliani said we're only gonna buy if there's a chance, I soppose that means (hopefully) we're gonna only move to player that available in market (Honda n Cass it is) and not to another club precious fucks because that gonna cost a lot in winter market like this.

12million and second half of Astori not enough?
Matri more expensive than what we will get for Borrie? I don't think so!
