Watched two movies yesterday, Austin Powers and The Island.

Austin Powers:

What a stupid movie! But honestly some parts made me laugh because it was way too stupid. Everything is stupid but not so bad cause you end up laughing.

The Island:

Not my type of movies at all, didn't like it.

Such a bad film, if you take out Jessica simpson theres absolutely no need to watch it.

I actually thought it was great. Of course Jessica Simpson is the best thing in the movie ;) She even confessed saying "Everybody in this movie had to work very hard, I just had to wear short shorts and act erotic" She surely was the best thing in the movie.

The Departed... it was entertaining, but not special... Jack Nicholson is good, gotta love him... but MArk Wahlberg was very good, he eclipsed Leo and Matt and the rest of the cast when he was on scene...

Just like Mark eclipsed his costars... same thing happened with GoodFellas, The Departed is FAR from the quality of GoodFellas... De Niro, Liotta, Pesci, Bracco and Sorvino were GREAT! The story and how it was carried was really goood!
I also liked how Marty controlled the camera and the takes on both films, pretty cool and interesting
It looked like Martin Scorsese had found a new partner in crime for his movies. Before it was De Niro and Joe Pesci (Taxi, King of Comedy, Raging Bull, Casino, Cape Fear, Goodfellas) and it seemed he now found his muse in Leonardo di Caprio (Gangs of New York, the Aviator, the Departed). Seemed good for him since he finally grabbed the Best Director in Oscar. But quality wise, all of Scorsese's movies with Di Caprio would need some time before can be considered as classics.

I just finished watching GoodFellas and before that The Departed.... A mini-Martin Scorcese afternoon ;)
Well, I had a Kevin Spacey weekend. Watched again Usual Suspects and American Beauty (both won him Oscar). Wonderful.

Watched Little Miss Sunshine last night and I loved it. The tag line sort of saying that this is the story of a very disintegrating family but it was actually the contrary. Each member of the family had their dreams crushed but they found something more meaningful. It might not be your standard 'feel-good' movie but the result will be the same.

Great work on the cinematography, lots of long panning shots of the skyline (especially during the trip scene) as well as carefully scripted shots to capture the mood and scene.

Wait for it and watch it in theaters. Watching it on your PC screen won't do it any justice.

I already saw the Perfume if you're refering to The Perfume: Story of a murderer, from the book by Patrick Süskind... I read the book recently, and they leave somethings out and as always the book's better... but it's got a very good cinematography and art

Just watched 300. Kind of expected it to be a classic like Troy and Gladiator but it didnt live up to my expectation. Found this intresting post in the imdb forum and sort of feel the same way about the movie

"I have a problem with a script. As many might know, the story is loosely based on a historical event that 300 Spartan soldiers fought against Persian armies till death. Sounds like an interesting story but I felt quite bored with the story telling in this film. There is no twist, no suspense, no tension between characters. This film has one and only goal which is to show audiences how Spartans fought their asses off against seemingly endless Persians."

My problems with 300:
Spoiler:

1. The fantasy elements - I know it's based on a comic book by Frank Miller but I can't stand those hybrids coming straight out of Lord Of The Rings.
2. You ferociously fight against a huge army of Persians and at the end you decide to give up?! WTF?!

Have I mentioned I've watched "Harsh Times" about a month ago? OK movie and an OUTSTANDING performance from Christian Bale.

I did watch it. Though I'd rather rate higher The Machinist than above said title, Harsh Times is OK to watch. :)

Watch Death Note.. (both movies) Although not as good as the anime version .. it was still enjoyable. I wasn't expecting anything at all before watching ... since anything anime turned into live-action always suck. But it was okay ..

Plus Beerfest was fucking awesome ...

What do you mean?
Spoiler:
Who gave up? I saw the movie and at the end, when Leonidas falls to his knees it's just a diversion, to surprise Xerxes and to make an attempt at his life.

Last nite I watched “Zidane a 21st Century Portrait”. It was a unique experience as the film was shot using 17 cameras who followed Zidane everywhere in the pitch during a Real vs Villareal game in season 04/05.

The camera and sound recording was great, you could hear the shuffle of his feet against the grass when he walked or dribbled, his body colliding and bumping with opponent’s players, his voice calling his teammate or criticizing the ref. Even small meaningless sound was recorded (blowing his noise, spitting, rubbing and scratching his head, adjusting his socks).

I was surprised to see how quiet and joyless he looked on the field. He didn’t even shout in joy or smile when his cross was headed in by Ronaldo or when Real scored the winning goal (Real won 2-1). Another great outlet to his character was when he was smiling and joking with Roberto Carlos. But minutes later he showed his Gallic temper and got a red card over a shoving contest with Villareal’s player.

The movie (prophetically, considering how he finished his career) ended with the image of him walking to the tunnel after the red card.

Despite the man and the hype surrounding him, IMO the movie in essence was a study of a man in work.

I hope my description above did not spoil the plot. It was basically an extended version of soccer match taking place in the past whose details and report you can read.

You did not spoil the plot, contrary to that, you made me curious. I'm downloading it right now. I hope I'll have time to see it tonight.

All Milan, all River Plate, Aimar, Saviola, Montenegro, Lugano,
it sounds like a very interesting movie, specially for people (like us) who love football... I hope I'll be able to see it sometime

I rented a couple of days ago and watched The Dead Poets Society and Cidade de Deus (City of God)...
the first one I saw it first quite a while ago, and I still loved it :) great movie with a great message... don't follow the flow and be yourself as well as seizing the day ;)

the second one, it took me a while to rent, I'm glad I finally decided to rent it
Great movie! a very interesting story, even though it's violent and stuff... I felt associated with Buscapé, being the official photographer of the group and wanting to become a photographer ;)
the cinematography and camera movement was really cool...
the structure of the story was very interesting and intriguing
and of course it had great music, obviously

so I thought... today I went to the movies with my friends and was able to change their minds about seeing that movie... so instead we watched a Mexican film, Niñas Mal... not great, but entertaining and funny (at least to me)

Awesome movie!

I saw "Goya's Ghosts" last night. It's a terrific movie. I got nothing but words of appraisal. Milos Forman is a genius. I was never so caught up in a movie this year! And Natalie Portman rocks.:star:

I liked 300 quite a bit. I really liked the comic book type effects put into the movie. It was really different.

Is this the Brazilian movie? If yes, this chillingly great. It's an 'in your face' movie. Makes u really appreciate your childhood. :) For some other great Brazilian movie, try "Central Station" or "Carandiru".
