Did you see the pictures in the 4th episode or watched the blurred version?

Back in the day black people really believed he was framed, but now it has changed dramatically. Can't find the articles with the percentages atm ...

What picture are you talking about? The N-word was blurred throughout the series IIRC.

--

I'm sure that back in the day they thought he was framed. But the biggest reason for blacks to celebrate when he was found not guilty was much more than that. I'm talking about the race issue. It was payback.

Another thing that this documentary opened my eyes for was the racism in the US. I wasn't as ignorant about this subject as I was of OJ's life, but it still shocked me what a rasist society the US were, down to the core. And it's not so fucking long ago!!

Edit:

Another thing that I reflected on was what an event like this does to a population.

When bad things happen in a society, I usually tend to believe that in the end, it will bring people closer. Going through hardship together creates a bond and makes people talk to each other. I honestly don't know if this event was for the better regarding race relations in the US.

The murder pictures. The ones not allowed in first/televised trial. (allowed on the civil trial)

Yeah, it's a great doc on race and race in America. After watching I read the polls of how people saw the issue during trials and now and there's a big slump. Hope it gets the oscar. They made people watch 7h (or was it even 10h version) in cinema for it to be eligible for oscar. While Making A Murderer (10/10) missed it's shot.

Yeah, I saw the murder pictures.

---

I binged the Making a Murder episodes. What do you think, Japser? Did they do it?

I watched MaM without knowing anything about the show other than it existed. I didn't know anything about Avery and the kid. During the first episode, I was thinking to myself: "why the hell are they putting everything out in the first episode. What's there left for 9 more episodes?"

And then at the end of the episode: "do we have Avery in custody?" - and I was like :eek: The whole series just seemed surreal to me.

Since I hadn't googled the show, until the last minutes of the 10th episode I was waiting for them to say that he's innocent and free to go.

Imagine if this guy's been imprisoned for 28 years for stuff he didn't do. We know 18 of the years he was innocent. 18 years that the government didn't apologize for and was reluctant to compensate him. Even that bit was extremely strange to me. HE had to fight for compensation when compensation should have been there waiting for him the minute he got out??

This some weird shit.

The cops? Of course. It's obvious.

They're going to make extra episodes on MaM

The weirdest shit was West Memphis 3: plead innocent and convicted[first trial], plead guilty and set free[at the end of incarceration].

You are THAT sure?

when I said "they" i meant Avery and his nephew.

I mean, I don't think they did it and that some weird shit is going on... but he's getting rejection after rejection. either this is a huge conspiracy, complete lack of criminal justice or he's guilty.

Yeah. They fucking planted a car ffs.

WHo got the major shade from series? I can't even remember. The brother + former bf of the victim? Talking like she's dead while going for a search + previous history?

West Memphis 3. One of the most notorious cases of wrongful conviction. Has a trilogy of documentaries during all havoc. As well as Peter Jackson produced West of Memphis after release.

I'm pretty sure they are innocent. "What does inconsistent mean" is 100%.

You're going from "of course" to "pretty sure" :D

I agree with you though. Not only the planted car, there was no blood in the trailer, the key and the blood being found after days, a fucking hole in the blood thing from the last case (that they apparently drew the blood from that was planted) etc.

--

What kind of legal system is that where you let people decide if someone is quilty?? The US jury system seems weird as fuck to me. I want professionals to look at my case and decide from evidence only. Not some biased and ignorant fuck who just wants to get home after a long trial. It's a fucking coin toss.

BUT, the way the judge AKA the professional spoke... it seemed like he also was 100% sure he was guilty. That's some weird shit.

Yeah. I loved Paradise Lost trilogy. But it's raw, they get a lot wrong. And for me that was interesting to see. Shows the fog under which everything is happening. If you want to just know the story behind it then West of Memphis might be better.

Other murderporn or injustice docs I recommend are Staircase, Jinx (discussed here earlier), Confessions (Norfolk 4), Dear Zachary.

Yeah, it's mental. No spoilers tho.

Also Central Park 5 is good one. (Trump also making a cameo appearance to piss himself on in this one)

Hmmm I can't decide which one to watch... help. I'm kind of leaning towards the trilogy, since you're saying they get a lot wrong.

Just downloaded Staircase though, seems to be a good one.

I have two days left of my vacation, gonna watch as many of these as I can. Doubt any of them will top MaM and OJ though.

MB binge watching on his holiday

If you need recs, I'll oblige

By the way, that OJ documentary on ESPN 30 for 30 was legit.

Did you see the drama where they went through the entire trial? It was awesome. Cuba gooding Jr was Oj.

Well yeah, they're not 10h deepdives. But I'd advise Jinx actually. It stands out with it's own flavour. [0 spoilers if possible]

People get a lot wrong in Pardise Lost. You'll see people making 90-180 degree flips in that case.

idk, I really don't think it can compare after the doc. I've seen some praise but don't think it is for me.

There's quite a few on Scientology already. Panorama? Frontline? Australians did one too I think.

I heard about it after I watched the documentary but never watched it though since I knew I'd probably hate it. The movie will not come off good after a documentary like that, at least to me. Maybe it would have worked if I saw the movie first.

There has been a lot of outside looking in on the subject and this is a doc of inside looking out. 4 key players tell their side of the story. It's more about their stories than facts (which do appear as well). Closer to true crime than whodunit doc. Feel it's may not be enough to decide on guilt/innocence.

even if it's marketed as looking both sides, the doc is easily/heavily leaning on innocence. American side of the story. The prosecutor is a wanker who talks like Amanda lived in dreamland while his insinuations and processing is totally out of place. And he is not even the villain here.

That Nick Pisa was a proper fucker. Did he have no filter how he's going to look? Or is that part of his hustle? Any publicity and that shit ...

Can someone explain the kissing furore to me? A couple close to death in each other's arms [to feel safe] and then kissing looks like everyday to me. It's not like they french kissed or anything. That is very unlikely to be seen in Italy?

Overall: cool but not compulsory. Would be interesting to get full interviews.

It's out. More about Theraux than Scientology, which is good. Since the subject has been drained. Much like the main source here.
