Albertini retires from professional football

Demetrio Albertini has announced his retirement from professional football. The midfielder said: 'My career was a dream and I would like to thank president Berlusconi, Adriano Galliani, Ariedo Braida and everyone at Milan. My idols were Ancelotti and Rijkaard, the all-time best. Now I will take my coaching badge and work with the players' association.

He last played with Barcelona before being released by them this past summer, and decided to call it quits when he was unable to sign with another club. Tough way to go out.

I believe Albertini has retired. I also learned that there will be a testimonial match for Albertini in March 15 at the San Siro. I also heard that Rijkaard will also attend the game, which fueled specification that the moment will be used by Berlusconi + Galliani to persuade Rijkaard to become Milan coach starting next season.

Anyway, sad to see Albertini retired and not achieving the same status like other Old Guards like Costacurta and Maldini.
