Ok, a while back I said that I was doing my Top 10 games of Milan in 10 years as a fan. I made 3 Top 10's (I'm a geek for lists), one for Serie A games, one for CL games and one in overall. I also made a honorable mention to those games that weren't part of the CL or Serie A but were important non the less. In fairness, I didn't count the finals nor the Euroderbies, cause they had an unfair advantage with the rest of the games. I already did all the Top 10's, just that I'm still searching for videos for the CL one- cause I thought it was going to be easier than finding the Serie A ones-, so it's going to take some days before I post that one.

I first made a list of all the memorable Milan games I had in my mind, then I started the qualification process: read my reviews on the games, read match threads + read other match reviews. Then I ordered them in a subjective way. And then I searched for videos + the gazzetta reviews that I read, and made a small comment on those games, and why they are there.

Note: The overall ones aren't included in the other 2 lists.

So in the next post: My top 10 Serie A games in 10 years as a Milan fan.

10. Milan vs Fiorentina 6-0. Season 04-05. 12-12-04
Seedorf (15’, 81’), Crespo (22’, 60’), Sheva (51’, 72’)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYx0btDjhMs
We didn’t start the season in a convincing way. Granted that Fiorentina was really shit back then but this was probably the best performance we had (game + result wise) till that moment and we played a really good game. Gotta admit I didn’t remember the goals too well (except for Seedorf ’s), and Crespo’s first goal is a total own goal, he had a great game, he gave lots of assists and winning the pk, but that’s an own goal (I don’t care what the rules say).

9. Lazio vs Milan 4-4, Season 1999-2000. October 3 1999
Veron (18’), 34’ Mihajlovic (own goal 34’), 36’ Abbiati (own goal 36’), Salas (38’, 72’), Shevchenko (43’, 63’ PK, 68’).
Gazzetta’s review: http://archiviostorico.gazzetta.it/1999/ottobre/04/Olimpico_applaude_tutti_ga_0_9910042250.shtml
Great game for both teams, just great. Sheva had already shown his worth, but after that game, well we all knew he was destined to be one of Milan’s best players. Zaccheroni didn’t play his 2 men (Bierhoff and Helveg). Serginho also playing his first games at Milan helping us in getting the first goal. We were 3-1 down, and then 3-4 up. Pity that our defense was pretty bad, but the game was super exciting by both teams, and Abbiatti saved our asses (inspite of the own goal)

8. Bologna vs Milan 2-3, Season 1998-1999, January 25 1999.
Signori (15', 43’), Guglielminpietro (21') , Morfeo (53') , N' Gotty (90’).
Video: small part from 1:00-1:05, and some goals from: 4:24-4:39 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWAgNA7qc4g&feature=related (you can also see in the video features like Spalleti making Sampdoria suck big time, the injury of Batistuta against us that gave us a helping hand because Fiorentina lost their modjo in that moment –IMO-, and a young but super experienced Alessandro Nesta).
Review Gazzetta: http://archiviostorico.gazzetta.it/1999/gennaio/25/Milan_sette_vite_ga_0_990125655.shtml (Milan has seven lives!).
Ok, so Abbiatti was playing his first game as a starter (from 3rd kepper with little hope to play to starter in just a matter of months), after Rossi’s stupidness. Guly also started getting more “love” by Zaccheroni. We debuted a 16 year old, Mohamed Aliyu (who was going to be the next big thing, the next Weah…he is still just 25, and if we gave a chance to Borriello, why can’t we bring this one back :D, at least we can pass him as a youth system element) who entered instead of Leonardo. Bologna was dominating us through the first half, Giusseppe Signori giving us a football lesson. Their lead for HT was deserved. In the first minutes of the second half, Bologna could have made the lead bigger, had they not messed up in front of the goal. But they didn’t. We started bouncing back till we were able to draw them and then thanks to a beauty of a FK done by N’Gotty we won the game in the last minute!!! (we got a lot of points in the last minutes of several games in that season).

7. Milan vs Roma 3-2, Season 1998-1999, October 25th, 1998.
Video: Weah’s goal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao62ifAcA1c&feature=related

Review: http://archiviostorico.gazzetta.it/1998/ottobre/26/Milan_non_crede_suoi_occhi_ga_0_9810261108.shtml (Milan can’t believe their eyes!)
Delvecchio (9'), Leonardo (48', first half); Ziege (59'), Delvecchio (70'), Weah (72')
The first time I was able to understand what it was to suffer and wait till the end as a Milan fan. Paulo Sergio, Di Francesco and Marco Delvecchio were toying with us, Roma hit the post repeatly, Totti missed a penalty, they could have draw the game in the last minutes. Boban gets send off (as well as Daniele Conti for Roma, yeah, the son of Bruno). Our defense was a complete mess, and to top it off, Maldini got his nose broken. But things went in our way…Ziege had a decent game and scored (!!), with the help of his hand. And Weah after several months without a single goal returned with a wonderful header.

6. Milan vs Parma, 2-1, Season 1998-1999. April 11 1999.
Balbo (39').; Maldini (59'), Ganz (72') .
Video: Maldini’s goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhs9XD741zQ
Ganz goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bU7rvEtsD4 (Buffon and Cannavaro OWNED).
Review: http://archiviostorico.gazzetta.it/1999/aprile/12/Fuori_Bierhoff_dentro_Milan_ga_0_9904123518.shtml
The start of the seven wins. We started 1-0 down, the first half wasn’t played well, Parma dominated, and Balbo scored a goal with little angle. But we got back on track, mostly by putting lots of heart out there. It started with a freekick made by Federico Giunti, who just set the ball to Maldini, who took an splendid shot. Just some minutes later, Maldini saved us after there was some chaos in our area. Finally Ganz scored a great goal (thanks to an assist by Boban) running against Cannavaro. Little but valuable minutes by Ganz. Roma gave us a helping had, beating Lazio (I think 3-1).

5. Juventus vs Milan, 0-2, Season 98-99, May 10, 1999
Review: http://archiviostorico.gazzetta.it/1999/maggio/10/Milan_salta_Juve_ga_0_9905102320.shtml
Video: one of the goals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJssJAzV3CA. Starts from 2:00-2:07
Magic by King George, 2 goals vs Juventus. We made the game so easy. Seriously this was the easiest Milan vs Juventus game I have ever seen, inspite of the fact that we have beat them 3-1 twice not too long ago. But it was just so simple, no complications, we didn’t do much, but neither did they (except for an Inzaghi shot, that Abbiatti saved). First half 0-0. In the second half we had a Weah and Boban show.

4. Milan vs Inter 1-0, Season 05-06, April 14, 2006.
Kaladze (62’)

Review: http://archiviostorico.gazzetta.it/2006/aprile/15/Milan_vincere_Inter_solito_ga_10_0604157371.shtml (Title: Milan knows how to win, Inter doesn’t. Like always.)
At that moment we were fighting for a direct spot to the CL, the results Juventus eventually made us enter the fight for the scudetto. It was played in a Good Friday, so the enviroment seemed more calm than usual. Not the best game ever, and probably all the games I listed before were better, but there’s just something about this game that I really really appreaciate. It was intense (Inter was handling the first minutes), but mostly Milan played as a team (not Sheva who had an off day, but the rest of the team did), while Inter, well they were so in pieces. Maybe it’s the fact that that’s the last time we were superior to them. Whatever, it’s top 4.

3. Milan vs Sampdoria, 3-2, Season 1998-1999 May 2nd, 1999
Ambrosini (17'); Montella (60'), Leonardo (79’), Franceschetti (86’), Ganz (95’)
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7K_GyPlyxFU from 7:38-7:59
Review: http://archiviostorico.gazzetta.it/1999/maggio/03/urlo_Ganz__ga_0_990503571.shtml
ESPN showed Lazio’s game. They won like 3-0 or something big like that, last report on Milan was 2-1 in our favour. Before going to a commercial brake, they showed the scores and it said 2-2 in our game. So I shut the TV down, cause the game was already ending. No worth watching anymore. Heartbroken, we lost the chance for the scudetto. Several hours later, I put the Domenica Sportiva on…and I went crazy, I couldn’t believe it. Ganz again being decesive. I have never watch this game, but the effect of hearing about that goal in the 90th minute...it deserves to be here. Watch the minutes of the goals, just by that I get chills. There was just so much heart in that Milan.

2. Milan vs Inter 3-1, Season 03-04, October 5, 2003
Inzaghi (38’), Kaka (46’), Sheva (77’), Martins (78’).

The Pirlo fk that Pippo deviates, such a classic :star:. Kaka had already shown some good moves, but this game, well you know there’s always that game that defines a star player, for me this was it. Gattuso putting a cross. Sheva making a great move in the 3rd goal Beating Inter is always good. Obafemi celebrating his goal like a victory goal (though it was the best of the night) is one of the classics. We dominated the game, and played great football, specially because, if you remember, this one was after the game against Celta Vigo which was a horrible performance.

“Seedorf only plays 5 good games a year, all of them big games”. Well, back then so true. If there was a moment to kill the old lady in their home it was that moment, and we did it perfectly. A Sheva header that put us up. 2 Seedorf’s strikes (one deviated). And Ciro Ferrara getting one in the net…it would have been better 3-0, but well. We we’re playing the best football in Europe in that moment, not many have the chance to watch their team putting the show like Milan was doing during that specific moment (from January-March 2004), lamentably some things happened and well you know the story.

Aren't you almost engaged? I'm not a home wrecker, one thing I promised myself to never become.

Even if Sheva was awesome during his good days, and I do like Pippo (unlike you), I have always felt that we needed a guy like Weah out there in the pitch, he was just unreal, and I didn't even see him in his greatest days. In fact he started the 98-99 sucking, and everybody was talking about it.

I'm not content with the current days, we didn't play exactly awesome in those days (game wise, one can even argue that sometimes we do better currently), but that 98-99 team was so full of heart, which made the whole difference. I'm not saying that today they don't have heart, but they have achieve so many things and the speech from the management has become so arrogant that we have lost that "hunger". Of course heart can only take you so long...and the next 2 seasons weren't exactly a thing to write about, except for some sparks. (much like lately)

Any Milan player contributing to the expected success of the side, need more good Italian players.
Is There A Book On the History of AC Milan?

I have looked for a long time, but have never been successful in finding a book about the history of Milan. By history I mean an overview/almanac of the seasons, players, and stories of the club throughout the years.

In the states they have these for various sports teams like "The History of the Chicago Cubs", my favorite MLB team. Maybe something like this is availible in Milano, but never can I find anything like this online for ordering.

Maybe a member of the Milan family has something like this, or knows where to get it. Thanks regardless. :)

LOL...truly an overstatement...:D

But there's a book called Almanaco something (will give you the right tittle) that will give you every statistics about Milan from 1899 until midway through season 04/05. You'll have match information, players fielded, substitutes, coaches and players over the years. It's in Italian but you don't need to understand the language to understand the book. The book is 700+ pages, the size of A2 (A4 paper folded into 2) and updated every 5 years. Try to find it in ebay.

But there's not one authoritative history book on AC Milan History, you gather bits and pieces of information from internet, old articles, watching videos and other information.

Merged with Milan History thread.

Apologies on not posting this in the correct area, I had not seen this thread up to this point as I am new here (can't believe I never knew a Milan forum existed).

Thanks very much gaizka22 for the information, I will take a look online for it. My Italian isn't that bad so I should be able to understand it. Been wanting a "coffee table" Milan book for ages so this would be a welcome addition to the household. :)

You can also try DVDs. I know it might not sit so pretty on the table :D but if you want some visual, there are a lot to offer. Go to ebay.it and type AC Milan DVD. There's a 7-set collection chronicling Milan since the very start.

And this one is very good. It's a 2 DVD set that tells the story of all the 18 International Trophies that Milan won. But the plus side is the large size book that comes with the package, it's full of pictures. I haven't bought this, quite pricey.

Lol. I have watched those DVD's twice and I speak like 0 Italian. Least I got the subtitles for Maldini dvd. There have been many books written about Milan, I remember something like this asked in XT forums(but couldn't find it ATM since I'm not a regular there). I bet user Diavolo there could make the best suggestions to you so send him a pm. Xtratime Milan forum - http://www.xtratime.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=10

Not wanting to upstage c4m, allow me to pitch in my list the most emotional and enjoyable Serie A games that I remember watching
1. 87/88 vs Napoli - Home – (4-1)
Maradona was my personal God, this game changed my mind and I switched allegation ever since.

2. 91/92 vs Foggia – Away – (2-8)
Last game of the season, Milan already confirmed scudetto winner. I was watching the game with my late grandpa (huge Dutch fans, he would support any club that has Dutch players). Milan was down 2-1 at halftime and my grandpa calmed me, “They’ll win this, just wait”. And boy we did! 7 goals in the 2nd half.

3. 92/93 vs Lazio – Home (5-3)
Further cemented Milan’s attacking force. It was like we were saying, “You score 1, we’ll get 2 past you”.

4. 98/99 vs Parma – Home (2-1)
Technically Parma was miles better. After this game I started to dream (albeit very little and unconvinced) that maybe, just maybe we could challenge Lazio and Fiorentina win the scudetto.

5. 98/99 vs Udinese – Away (1-5)
The most enjoyable game that season. They had Marcio Amoroso, the leading top scorer and we just smoked them. And my personal hero Boban scored.

6. 99/00 – vs Lazio – Away – (4-4)
After the game I was thinking, “This Sheva new boy is really good”. He owned Nesta in this game.

7. 00/01 vs Roma – Home (3-2)
Although the scoreline made it look like a very close game, Roma was never a match for us and they only scored with 2 goals (both Totti) from deadball situations (freekick and penalty)

8. 03/04 vs Inter – Home (3-2)
0-2 down at halftime. My personal greatest come back ever. Long range from Kaka and Seedorf.

9. 05/06 vs Juventus – Home (3-1)
We were very very good (and Sheva didn't play, Buffon was injured and Juve didn't field Abiatti afraid he will give us the upper hand, who was their goalie? I forgot, all I remember was his blunder for Pirlo goal). The sight of Nesta, Stam and Dida ganged up on Mutu is unforgettable. So was Maldini calming down Rino who clearly won the battle vs Vieira. Followed by next game 5-1 win vs Udinese

10. 07/08 vs Inter – Home (2-1)
Very very emotionally satisfying. Too bad we lost the next game vs Napoli and missed out CL spot

There was no game from season 94/95 until 97/98 simply because I was studying in a country where football wasn’t popular. Ocassionally (once every 4-5 months) my brother sent me video of Milan games that he taped and newspaper clipping but not watching it live was very different.

I googled it and it seems that the third GK was Landry Bonnefoi. In all honesty I've never heard of this lad.

Refresh my memory Gaiz.

Was this the game where Van the Man changed his shoes during or after half time, indicated 4 (with his fingers) to Capello (or was it Capello who indicated 4 to Van?) and then goes on and scores 4 goals?

I know I've posted this picture so many times, but I can never get enough of it. Mutu was such a jerk back then.

Oh, and the third GK who played that day was Antonio Chimenti.

Refresh my memory Gaiz.

Was this the game where Van the Man changed his shoes during or after half time, indicated 4 (with his fingers) to Capello (or was it Capello who indicated 4 to Van?) and then goes on and scores 4 goals?

:proud:
Nope. In this game the scorers were Maldini, Gullit, MvBasten (2), Simone (2), Fuser and 1 OG. The game where he changed his shoes was a home game vs Atalanta in the same season. Milan was down by 1 goal, he changed his shoes somewhere in the 20+ minute and talked to Capello. When he re-entered the field he made the finger count and it was 3. He obligedly scored 3 in less than 10 minutes.

Oh, and the third GK who played that day was Antonio Chimenti.

Tay knows her keepers. Anyhow my memory tells they didn't field Abbiati for a questionable injury or he had somekind of agreement on the contract.

So you're saying that he said he would score "3" goals and then scored them?
It's Marko, right?

Boy it would've been nice to watch Milan back in those days.
One question, how good were Milan back then, at least compared to now?

Not wanting to upstage c4m, allow me to pitch in my list the most emotional and enjoyable Serie A games that I remember watching

Oh no you didn't. :D.

You included a favorite of mine that had to be left out: that game vs Udinese were Weah scored in his 100th game with us and Boban was fantastic.
