Giovanni Trapattoni hopes both Italy and the Republic of Ireland do well in this evening’s friendly.

The veteran tactician has had spells in charge of both national teams in the past, and anticipates a good game at Craven Cottage tonight.

“Tonight is only a friendly,” he told Sport Mediaset. “But I would like both teams to give a good impression of themselves.”

The 75-year-old then commented on Giuseppe Rossi’s race to be fit in time for the World Cup.

“Prandelli and Rossi is a bit like me and Baggio. When I had to make my selection for the World Cup in Korea I had that same situation.

“Baggio was a very important player, however he was injured leading up to the tournament. I was desperately hoping he would recover in time, but it wasn’t to be and we had to go without him.”

Trap went on Pippo Inzaghi’s rumoured move to manage Milan.

“I really believe that Pippo has had a great experience with the youth set-up and can take what he’s done as a player and convert it to management.”

Quite interesting. I think Prandelli is testing Darimian, Paletta and Verratti to see who to take with him.

Aquilani had a great season for Fiorentina.
In all honesty, Marchisio and Montolivo don't deserve a spot ahead of him, going on the form this season.

where did he announce this? how come it's not reported in most of the news sites?


I think from that formation, he will surely select for the final 23: Sirigu, Paletta, Bonucci, De Sciglio, Motta, Monto, Rossi.

Personally I am not a fan of Immobile, I don't think he's ready, but I'm even less of a fan of Destro. I would take Insigne, but we already have Cassano who is almost the same type of player.


I did read Prandelli say something about possibly bringing 24 men to the WC instead of 23.

Its not a surprise really. He hasnt got any chance against Cassano and Rossi (same role)

Aquilani had a goos start of this season, then he performed shit for the majority of this campaign. His 2012-13 season at Viola was very good, but he was utter crap whenever he was selected for Italy. He doesnt Reserve to be there after this season.
