40 years ago (June 1st for UK, June 2nd for US), the "Greatest and Most Influential Rock Album" was released... Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles :star:

600px-Pepper%27s.jpg

Side one

1. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" – 2:04
2. "With a Little Help from My Friends" – 2:46
3. "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" – 3:30
4. "Getting Better" – 2:49
5. "Fixing a Hole" – 2:38
6. "She's Leaving Home" – 3:37
7. "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" – 2:39

Side two

1. "Within You Without You" (Harrison) – 5:07
2. "When I'm Sixty-Four" – 2:37
3. "Lovely Rita" – 2:44
4. "Good Morning Good Morning" – 2:43
5. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)" – 1:20
6. "A Day in the Life" – 5:33

Wow...so now we should all sing:
"It was fourty years ago today, sgt pepper taught the band to play.
They've been going in and out of style but they guaranteed to raise a smile
So let me introduce to you, the act you've known all these years...
Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Baaaeeeeend"
(Followed by heavy brass)

This album held the no. 1 spot in the Rolling Stone magazine most influential album of all time. My dad still borrows my CD sometimes :D

Motorhead taught this band to play
At first they were so out of style
But they’re guaranteed to raise your bile
So may I introduce to you
The act that drank 1000 beers
Sgt. Hetfield’s Motorbreath pub band

Your ultimate CD compilation

If you could compile your fave songs in 1 CD, what will it be? On average, 1 CD is around 70 minutes, around 12-15 songs depending on the length of the songs. Here's mine:

1. Tweentieth Century Boy - T Rex
2. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic - The Police
3. In My Time of Dying - Led Zeppelin (11+ min, eat up many space)
4. My Sweet Lord - George Harrison
5. Everybody Hurts - REM
6. One - U2
7. Simple Twist of Fate - Bob Dylan
8. Estranged - Guns N' Roses (another space eater)
9. Crossroads - Derek and the Dominoes (from Live at Fillmore album)
10. Me and Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
11. Blue Sky - the Allman Brothers Band
12. Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam

And like Nick Hornby said in "High Fidelity", song listing must be geared towards bringing certain emotion to the listener :D

When you're having trouble fitting songas to your 4gb Ipod it's quite impossible to compile such cd.
There was a VR/GNR discussion and first one released their new single(the video is a disgrace:rolleyes:):

And since DennisBergkamp is so into opinions about Oasis, here's young Pete Doherty:

Lately I've been continuing with Libertines/Dirty Pretty Things/Arctic Monkeys/Muse and added Timbalands new album to the playlist as well. Looking forward to White Stripes new album...

I know this song, what I want to know is the video clip. Is this the one where they ride some sort imaginary gigantic flying machine?

You bet! Somehow someway iPod never really caught my fancy. Bought mini the 4GB then sold it, tried the big one but still don't fall for it. I don't really like scrolling and rotating my thumb, I prefer to see the whole set. That's why I stick to my Mac as my source of music: 20GB and running :D. And if you're inside a network with fellow Mac user, you can have Napster's wet dream : multi gigabyte piracy. I once copied 2 GB worth of music in just 5 minutes :D

Hadnt heard the gary Moore version. Is a much more '80s rock' style, while Led Zeppelins is just..well...Zeppelin style.
Here is the Zeppelin song.

LOOOOVE the opening riff and the intro of drums and bass at 1:28

The Gary Moore one is covered by Nightwish. That's actually the version I know. Haven't heard the original one.

I can upload the Led Zeppelin one if you want. In ogg vorbis or mp3

The Nightwish version:

Nightwish is great!

Can you explain me the "Trousers" joke? Did Oasis boys have a thing with their panties or was it just the way he said the first word that came to his mind? I love the face he gives when asked if he wants to become apresenter as well as how he says "Oh, at leeast 17 minutes!"

Dont get me wrong, i LOOOOOVE AC/DC but i think the only song of theirs that might be on that list is Shook me all night long.
AC/DC have always struck me an awesome awesome band, with awesome riffs and great music, but lyrically lacking. BY that i mean that all their songs are light-hearted and just about having fun in general. Nothing wrong with that, but I think maturity in lyrics is soomething that pushes a band beyond that "very good" label.
Pretty much all the bands on my list have at some point or there gotten down and written a song thats about something serious. That is the only dept that ACDC were lacking in.

Ride On???

It's just their style. And I think their best song is Thunderstruck!!! Great song, but they have a lot of great songs, and all with the same 3 chords.
They also have a lot of great songs that aren't known by most people. Soul Stripper, What Do You Do For Money Honey, The Furor, Burin' Alive, Fly On The Wall, Rock 'n' Roll Singer, ...

But I agree they're a good band, but not great like Metallica, Manowar, etc

Like Jerry Cantrell once said, anyone can make a song about going out on a Friday night, having a good time and getting into a fight.

If you're looking for depth in lyrics, then you should listen to Alice in Chains and Mad Season
