I know that. But it's the first time he's been quoted on acmilan.com in nearly three months.

I visit acmilan.com and do searches on Google (Italian and English) and Yahoo News almost every day. Proof that either I'm too passionate or I have no life. :D

The last time he was really open to the media was after the Jan. 19 Ascoli match (in which he wore the captain's armband). Then all the mistakes started (Parma, Samp, etc.) and he's barely made a peep since. Either the press simply didn't bother with him thereafter or vice versa.

Since the Ascoli match, he's given only a joint interview with Cris on acmilan.it before the Lyon CL series, plus the quote from World Soccer magazine somewhere in this thread, and then there's yesterday.

FSC stinks when it comes to Milan highlights, so I'll have to download 'em here. The WC will be the true litmus test for him. If he does well, his value will skyrocket. I'm going to try and watch as many Brazil games as I can.

Math is not my strongest subject, smarty. :)

Last week, I heard a story on the radio about a student (not sure which grade) who actually needed a calculator to add 1 + 1. I couldn't make that up if I tried.

When you have a world-class player at your disposal, you don't dump him like yesterday's newspaper. That's just suicide. No matter who we get as a replacement (save for Buffon, but in all reality there's a snowball's chance of that happening), they'll always be a notch below in terms of quality.

And of course everyone started bellyaching immediately after his first mistake in quite awhile (in the season finale vs. Roma). What, he's not officially back in form unless he's perfect?

FIORI: 'Dida farà un grandissimo Mondiale'
19/05/2006 17.15.23

Everyone's expecting Dida to screw up in the WC, so there's no better opportunity for him to prove the world wrong and make all the "experts" shut up.

He's the only reason I want Brazil to win the whole thing this summer, because no one deserves it more. :star:

That's good then. Less pressure on him and he will make everyone who doubted his ability look like a dill.

Dida Must Stay Rossonero!!!

I wrote similar thread about this issue but the difference is that now I'm writting more about Dida.I think Dida deserved to be mentioned in more than just one thread,ok?!I want Dida to stay! How can be possible that Galliani wanted to replace him first with Peruzzi( it seems to me that Galliani has some kind of disorder in his head)and now with Buffon,ok I understand why with Buffon but Peruzzi...come on! :head: Dida is our legend...(so is Sheva, doesn't matter if he leaves he'll always be our legend)! But Dida is our symbol,he can still play at least for 2 seasons at his best, and we should stick with him...Buffon is a great keeper,I agree...but the thing is that I won't feel for him the same as for Dida.DIDA can still put some magical performance,I'm sure he can!Dida is a Rossonero,Buffon is a Gobbi! :( And i don't think that buffon is better than dida!GOBBI also conceded some stuppid goals, yeah! Now it seems to me that some of the fans are blaiming dida for this season...why?it's our shaky defence that was wrong, not dida.We should give our votes for Dida,,give him our support. What do you think how he feels upon hearing your comments about wanting Buffon?! but even if fucking baldie GALLIANI buys THE GOBBI,and Buffon comes, in the hearts of many Milan supporters there will always be just one TRUE KEEPER:

Here's an article from The Sun, apparently masters of the one-sentence paragraph.

Dida is the dada
By PAT SHEEHAN

THERE are two schools of thought about being a Brazil goalkeeper.

The first is that you do not have to be much better than useless — because all the action will be taking place down the other end.

The second is that you have to be exceptional — because when opponents do attack, all your Brazil team-mates apart from your centre-halves will still be down the other end!

Dida — or to give the Brazil No 1 his full name, Nelson de Jesus da Silva Dida — can be accused of falling into both categories.

But when it comes to penalty shootouts, you could say that Dida is the dada.

If it was not for his inexplicable lapses in concentration, he would be regarded as the world’s best.

Dida, 32, was playing for AC Milan against Leeds in the 2000-01 Champions League when Lee Bowyer hit a hopeful shot from 35 yards.

He moved to collect Bowyer’s effort from under the bar but dropped it and the ball spun between his legs and into the net.

Dida gained a reputation as a penalty specialist after winning spot-kick shootouts in South America’s Copa Libertadores with Cruzeiro.

Milan signed him but then sent him back to play in Brazil on loan with Corinthians.

Dida helped Corinthians beat Vasco da Gama on penalties to win the 2000 World Club Championship — which earned him a a recall to Italy.

He soon replaced Christian Abbiati as first choice at the San Siro.

And he was outstanding as Milan rebounded from several barren years to win the 2003 Champions League final at Old Trafford — beating Juventus in, what else, a penalty shootout.

Dida’s action was illegal but the ref did nothing as he advanced almost to the edge of the six-yard box to decisively save a Juve spot-kick.

The keeper was involved in more controversy in the Champions League quarter-final against Inter last year when he was struck by a flare launched from the crowd.

The Brazilian was treated on the pitch but the teams were escorted off the field about 10 minutes later.

After 10 more minutes had passed, German referee Markus Merk tried to restart the game — but more flares were thrown and UEFA officials abandoned the tie.

Tactically, Brazil are different from other international sides — and former Republic of Ireland coach Brian Kerr believes they have a unique system.

He explained: “The only two players who are really defenders are the centre-backs.

“The shape of the team is 2-2-2-2-2, with the full-backs playing high up the pitch.

“That is how they would line up, but after that anything could happen that might even lead them to have three wide players on the left.”

It is an approach that has given Brazil extraordinary success at World Cups. They are the punters’ favourites, the experts’ favourites — seemingly everyone’s favourites.

But Brazil legend Pele reckons that status could work against them.

He warned: “Brazil are favourites and with that tag I don’t think they can win. Favourites always lose.

“In 1982, Brazil were favourites and got beaten by Italy in the group stage — and Holland are always favourites and always lose.

“In 2002, it happened to France and in 1990, Argentina lost to Germany. I never wanted Brazil to be favourites.

“We have to consider Germany as contenders. Italy are a good team and England, they have a great squad too.”

Brazil go to this World Cup with the weight of the world on their shoulders.

Winners five times — having made the final in the last three tournaments — the South American champions are as low as 5-2 with the bookies to retain the crown they won in Japan and South Korea four years ago.

Only the exceptional make Brazil’s starting line-up to display their extravagant skills as the world looks on in wonder.

For example, Lyon midfield man Juninho would be an automatic choice for most international sides — but he is unlikely to start for Brazil in the World Cup.

In Ronaldinho, Adriano, Kaka, Ronaldo and Robinho, Brazil have five potential match-winners.

Most teams would be happy with one. With such outstanding individual talents, there are also high expectations that Brazil will produce more sublime moments that will live on in football legend.

The heat, as they say, is on. But you can bet your bottom Euro that Brazil will be dancing and laughing on their team bus BEFORE every game.

These Samba sensations do not even know how to spell the word pressure, let alone feel it.

But even losing in the final will be seen as a failure by their millions of fans at home and around the globe.

(Can't anyone get his full name right? And I wish people would get over the illegal-penalty schtick already. It's done. It's ancient history.)

Dida is a good keeper but I agree with the comment about his lapses of concentration and if you are a goalie at the top level you can't afford to do this.

I am abilvalent about the situation, I am more worried about personnel in other areas such as defence, midfield and up front if Sheva goes to Chelsea.

Ya, thats the point, we dont need a gk, we need people in other areas, not goalkeeping

God, I hate it when I double-post in here. Anyway, here's a nice article:

Don't blame Brazil goalkeeper, says Dida

WEGGIS, Switzerland, May 27 - Brazil's World Cup goalkeeper Dida has preached forgiveness for Moacir Barbosa who was vilified after Brazil lost the 1950 final to Uruguay.

Barbosa was in goal when Brazil, hosting the 1950 World Cup and hot favourites to win, were beaten 2-1 in front of a shocked crowd of nearly 200,000 people at the Maracana stadium.

"Barbosa was crucified for that final and it's sad that we remember him just for that moment," Dida told reporters on Saturday. "In fact, he made a lot of great saves and he did a lot to help the Brazilian team and he should also be remembered for that, not just for one game which marked his life for ever."

Barbosa, who died in 2000 at the age of 79, said he had been condemned to a life sentence for Brazil's most bitter defeat. "Brazilian law doesn't permit a sentence of more than 30 years, but I've been in prison for 50 years now," he said shortly before his death.

Brazil and Uruguay were drawing 1-1 when Barbosa misread Chico Ghiggia's intentions and the Uruguayan scored between the goalkeeper's leg and the near post 11 minutes from time.

Dida, a reserve at the last two World Cups, has been named as first choice for the tournament in Germany and is set to play his first game in a finals against Croatia on June 13.

"My dream has always been to play at the World Cup and now I'm close to fulfilling that," he said. "But I don't just want to play at the World Cup, I want to win it as well." (Reuters)

I guess he's considerably more hesitant to give interviews in Brazil than Milan, because the media down there covered his press conference as if he'd found the Hope Diamond.

No, not yet. Even though Galliani said he was "confirmed" for next season, that doesn't mean he's signed a new deal. I have a feeling something will take place after the WC.
