From The Memories Silvano Ramaccioni

From The Memories Silvano Ramaccioni

He's no longer the team manager, but Ramaccioni remains a historical reference point for the club. The accompanying manager of the home games, at Milan since 1982, talks about himself and his Rossoneri world.

MILAN - Forty-six years in the football world, forty-four years on the bench, twenty-six at Milan. We will no longer call him team manager, but we will continue saying his name and associate it with the Rossoneri colors and the club he has collaborated with since 1982.

Silvano Ramaccioni is a member of the family and he will remain in the family in the role of accompanying manager of the home games.

His passion is the same as on the first day, the enthusiasm is the same as always. Of who feels a total love of football, which is perfectly perceptible when reading his words during an interview given today, Sunday 13 July, to 'Corriere della Sera'.

'To tell the truth I am covering a role I had already covered in the year of Zaccheroni's scudetto. Sundays without football would be very sad for me. I'm proud of my career: in 46 years of work, I have spent 44 on the bench. I'm sure no one has seen as many games as I have.'

Silvano Ramaccioni, 'Rama' for his friends at Milanello, remembers his arrival at Milan in 1982:

'I came to Milan in May, the team was already relegated. I came in as sporting director. We won the Serie B league but those were tough years, the club was close to failing. Until Silvio Berlusconi came.

I was at the end of my contract. If the new management wanted to send me away they could have. But Berlusconi told me: "Everyone talks well about you. If you want to you can stay." And he came up with the idea of the team manager.

Ramaccioni also answered some trivia questions. Here are the questions and answers:

Which coach are you particularly close to?
'I had a particular feeling with Fabio Capello also in our free time since we hunted together and we traveled around the world.'

The craziest character who passed through Milanello?
'Three names for three eras: Filippo Galli, Di Canio who was very witty and currently Oddo.'

The biggest troublemaker?
'Contra was pretty extravagant, as was Davids.'

The most religious?
'Albertini. Each Saturday before a home game at Milanello we celebrated the Mass. Now we are just 3 or 4, but in the 90s there were 12-15. Baresi, Tassotti, Sacchi, Capello would all come. Taribo West prayed in the dressing rooms, and Chamot gave Bibles to team mates and journalists.'

How many times did you have to calm things down from the bench?
'I cannot count how many times I had to pull Sacchi's coat to make him sit down to prevent him getting a red card.'

Do you have any regrets?
'I'm sad that in football there is too much emphasis on foreign players. This way it will be tougher to find new talents in our youth squads.'

Request:

gaizka22, can you please open a thread of 'Silvano Ramaccioni", he is for sure deserve one, and lately, he received the "Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed" from Adriano Galliani recently.

As much as I want to, seeing how important he is to Milan and one of the few people who's been with the club since the Serie B days, I don't think I can do it since opening a thread means giving information and I honestly have no information about him.

The article above was written last year before season 09/10 starts when Silvano Ramaccioni finally retired from Milan.

One tidbits about Albertini. His brother (I don't know younger or older) is a priest, which probably contributed to him being quite religious. His mother once told the press that both of her sons ended becoming what every Italian mothers ever dreamed of : a priest and a footballer :D

@Fiero, I don't want to live in past, the past is just past memories; we need to stop that, and look forward for our future!

History is a big part of why we achieve things. After all, why would we go for goals if they'd be forgotten? It's important to be ambitious, have goals, and plan for the future. But in my opinion, it's more important to celebrate and enjoy what one has achieved.

It's a memory, a wonderful one, that will live with us forever. Back in the summer of 2006, just after Italy had been crowned as the world's champions, Milan's future looked dim. Sheva had just left, breaking the hearts of millions of Milanisti all around the globe. We found ourselves in the middle of the Calciopoli controversy, maybe facing the possibility of returning to Serie B. At first, we weren't even going to participate in the Champions League. Fast forward nine months, and Milan are Europe's champions! Not even the most optimistic of supporters would have expected it.

It's an epic story of rising to the top. Milan started the season in the worst way possible. We had a miserable form in the league, like it wasn't enough that we started with 8 points deducted. Olivera failed to fill in Sheva's boots (after all, who could?), Gila failed to step up, and our team looked shattered to say the least. Not long into the season, and we realized a realistic target would be finishing fourth to make the Champions League.

But all the team needed was two signings, and an epic victory, to achieve the unthinkable. Ronaldo and Oddo joined in January, the former to help in the league as Oliveira continued to struggle, and the latter to fill in Cafu's boots as he didn't have the legs anymore. In the Champions League, we had easily passed the group stages, but looked to struggle in the first knock-out round against Celtic. It took an extra time solo goal from Kaka for us to scrap through to the next round. The only impact this victory had, was that it made everyone believe that Milan should better save their energy and focus on the league. Perhaps that was a good thing after all.

Next up were Bayern. Not the power horse they were at the turn of the century, but still dangerous as they were led by non other than
Ottmar Hitzfeld. The first leg was at the San Siro, Milan were leading 1-0 at the break, with a Pirlo header. In the second half, Bayern scored twice to make it 2-1. Milan looked out of the competition, but a late Kaka penalty gave the fans a glimmer of hope. Milan had to win in Germany, or get any draw higher than 2-2.

Most people would point to our 3-0 victory against Man Utd as our best game of the season, and I wouldn't disagree. But to me, the epic victory that we were looking for, the one that changed our season, was beating Bayern 2-0 at the Allianz Arena. It gave the team the self belief that was lacking. The players proved they weren't finished yet. Milan was the only non English team in the semi finals, and now had something to really look forward to. Two years in the past, Milan had experienced the most freakish defeat I've ever witnessed. Liverpool were in the other semi final, with a possibility to meet them again at the final. It was time to set the record straight.

Kaka's individual brilliance was the highlight as Milan lost 3-2 to Man Utd in England. We were leading until Gattuso got injured and was limped off, the game was lost then. Once again, Milan found themselves in a difficult position. The English media wank fest had started way before the first leg. Milan were deemed old and slow as usual, the wholecliche that Italians are defensive diving cheats was repeated tons of times, not to mention the brilliant quote of sir Alex Ferguson "Pippo Inzaghi was born in an offside position" that we had to be reminded of on every possible occasion.

The players played their heart out on the field. It was a magical combination of Gattuso's determination, Nesta's class, Kaka's speed, Seedorf's effectiveness, Pippo's finishing, Ancelotti's tactics, and the whole team's unity. From the youngest member of our staff to signor Berlusconi, the whole club was unified together towards a single goal. The players fought like warriors in the battle field, we were simply unbeatable. We achieved the unexpected. AC Milan were in the Champions League final.

Our game was a day before the Chelsea vs Liverpool second leg, so Milan didn't yet know which team they were about to face. However, there was only one opponent every Milanista wanted to face, and it was not Chelsea. When Liverpool defeated José Mourinho's men on penalties, I already knew we were champions.

It took two goals from Pippo Inzaghi (who sir Alex Ferguson was once quoted as saying he was born in an offside position, by the way) to confirm it. That's it, Milan made the impossible. The Rossoneri were once again on top of Europe, for the seventh time, beating Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and non other than Liverpool on the process. The big eared trophy had returned home. Were else would it find the comfort, except in Paolo Maldini's hands?

Doesn't that seem like something you would like to remember?

For sure you miss understand or miss my point on here; Memories are the Accolade for the team and their fans, and most of all, they are the honours that written in gold with the book of histories.

To me, I recall them in the prosperity and Hard times to excite my memories and enjoy the sweetness of Victories and Glories and learn from the defeats and false steps.

That means not ignoring them or stop bring them back to our memories, but certainly to look forward and have ambitions and to dream for the other success eras!

I hope we all in this forum to be optimistic and positive thinker before any attacks on our CEO mismanagement; although the indicators don't help but for sure our squad will play from their hearts to write a good history as I hope.

Does anyone have the full match of Milan vs Barcelona 1994 broken into several parts. Unfortunately, I can't download it all together at once because of the slow connection. C4M had posted links but both the videos - and the one responsible for them were suspended.

Any Milan-History related video would be appreciated.

A question to ask.

In one of the infamous Deportivo 2004 leg. In one of those games, can anyone remember if Pippo missed a shot or scored and inadvertantly ran off the pitch like 3 steps wide of the goal? I want to know as i'm pretty sure it was against Deportivo, almost certain actually. Yet this was the first Milan game i remember watching.

Thanks in advance. I'm hoping for one of the brainboxes with amazing memory. :D

Also, highlights would be good, as maybe i could see then.

Actually it might not be Deportivo. Althouh any help would be appreciated.

Don't think I can remember the games too well but it's pretty vague description. You sure it wasn't 2002 when he scored a hat-trick vs Deportivo? Checked one of his compilations an he does that in a Bayern game 2002/03.

You could be right, that was just a vague description by me anyway. :D

Is there any highlights you could post? Would be real helpful.
