He played great tennis. I thought he will win in 4 sets but he won in 3. No one can deny that he's the King of tennis.

Yes, it was clear that Federer will win, but even if there only 3 sets, Federer took Gonzalez only 3 games (he made a break in each set).
Well done Fernando Gonzalez, he played ok, even if he made many mistakes, but I was sure that Federer will win AO, he's way too good.

It was rather fitting that the two men who played the most spectacular tennis of the tournament got to fight it out for the title. Gonzalez is 26, and the way things are going, he has at most 2 years to be i contention for the major titles.

Tennis is getting increasingly tiresome and more about muscle and stamina than elegance and grace. I only hope Federer keeps himself injury free and goes on to break that notion - if he already hasn't. The way he's playing, it doesn't look as if he's trying too hard. He makes it all look so simple. And I think that's what genius is all about.

Federer lost to the same player in less than 2 weeks, 2nd round at Indian Wells and 1/16 at Miami.

What's the secret Canas? :conf:

The fact is that Federer had many unforced errors, but still ...

For me the surprise was not the fact that he lost, but the fact that he lost to the same guy in less than 2 weeks. That's a 1st ...

WELL DONE VOLANDRI

5/11/2007
Filippo Volandri has knocked out Roger Federer from the Italian Tennis Open in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. So it's congratulations to a great Rossoneri fan.

I watched Nadal vs Davidenko today and Nadal seems unstoppable at the moment.I think he is the main candidate of wining the French open.

Volandri lost to Gonzalez today but getting to the semis is a great achievement for him since he got in with a wild card....
Federer is going through the worst period in his carrier so far.He lost to Nadal at the Monte Carlo open and now to Volandri.
Playing on clay was never his strong side.
The only Grand Slam that Federer hasn’t won is the French Open and things are not looking good for him.He has 2 weeks to shape up before Roland Garros starts...

I think Federer is focussed on the French Open and really couldn't give a toss about the current tornaments he is playing in.

Well he fired Tony Roche who is his coach so you can see something is not right....
Usually these tournaments serve as a warm up for the French Open.
Lets see what happens...

Yes it was quite stupid to fire Roach he is aussie afterall ;)

Na I think they departed ways other than a firing. Roach didn't want to travel to coach him to Wimbeldon because of his age and other circumstances. Apparently he said that the French open would be his last then could only offer him a 6 months on and off training schedule and in the end I think both came to the right decision.

What games of tennis this open has produced over the following days. Casey Dellacqua's battling victory over Mauresmo;), Kohlschreiber unbelievable performance against Roddick and lately Federer's struggle over Tipsarevic who just came out of no where playing sensational tennis.

Best Aussie Open since I can remember... and it's only the first week!
