You dont have to be fast if you are quick of thought, physically aggressive and / or a clean tackler. Romagnoli tackles well and reads the game well enough but he is too passive and when you couple that with not being physically superior you get the outcomes we have seen:

Bullied off the ball, dominated on defensive corners, backing up waiting for last possible moment before tackling (when they come off glorious but when they dont he has practically open the gate to the attack... and also getting turned inside out by quick tricky players easily.

He wasnt World Class but he was a very good defender with potential. This year he has been extremely poor and as I have said multiple times its Milan that is now keeping his name in high regard. Previously many persons talked about him wasting away here instead of playing CL and improving. If he had this kind of form on top teams he would be buried on someone's bench without getting a look.

He is very lucky to be where he is and I just hope he improves because I dont think Pioli will bench him.

Im sorry but van djik ramos de ligt skriniar even chiellini are pretty quick for cbs. And even if some are not quick then theyre atleast very strong physically which roma is also not

Roma had a great game in the Coppa against Inter. Let's hope he has another at the weekend. As captain he needs to lead by example. Biggest game of the season so far.
