Mainly, not purely defensive role.
A double pivot system still has room for box-to-box running from the mids. Biglia or Bakayoko would have the sitting role. Kessie would still be the engine of the team, still do up and down running on and off ball, and probably still get to waste tons of attacks(and still have a chance to improve in this area), but it will be reduced in favor of Paqueta. The Albin Ekdals don't have his physique or athleticism or ability to move the ball forward. |

Definitely did the right thing as a veteran to let Kessie know it’s not proper to behave like that after subbing off, especially towards the player who was coming in for him. Glad that they cleared it up after the game

Keep to be Bennacer's back up. Can also be Bennacer's understudy.
As a regista, he got everything to play in Giampaolo's system. |

Replaced Zapata as the biggest liability.
Has there been a game where he hasn't just given the opponent the ball in a dangerous place or lost it in the box of all places. Never want to see him again. |

At the same time people are screaming for experienced players. So here is what you get from experience driven transfers, great no?

Ibra and Ribery etc were always at a different level than him. He wasnt even on a Van Bommel level. Biglia was a slight step up form Montolivo but that is mid tier, never star level. |

Higuain or Bonucci failed too, there is hardly room to complain about their CV. Just keep such players away from Milan, unlike younger players they eat up a shit load of wages and are impossible to sell when out pf form. Also no thanks to Ribery and Ibra, Ribery is medium club material by now and with Ibra you play Ibraball, that‘s not how you build a team. |

Transfer fee: 19.5M
Salary: 10.5M (over 3 years) Total cost: 30M One of the worst deals we have ever done. This happen when you take a 31 year old in decline for the sake of experience and you get rid of Locatelli for being raw. We should thank Gazidis for not allowing Milan to make such deals anymore. Higuain was a Real Madrid player, a Serie A top scorer with Napoli, and still one of the best strikers in the league with Juve. Bonucci was nominated for ballon d'or in 2017. Biglia moved from Anderlecht to Lazio when he was 27 years old. He spent his career in average teams. Biglia was a 31 year old in decline. He had only one year left in his contract with Lazio. He and Mascherano were the weakest players in Argentina's national team, and you could notice that. Maradona said he did not understand why Biglia was called up (just before we signed him). Probably the dumbest signing of the decade.

Yeah, truly. He had looked good at Lazio, myself and others thought he would be fine here. Instead he was so washed up and put in less than a handful of good performances in his 3 years here. Signed on his last year of contract for a large sum and on a big wage. Awful.

Even with Lazio he was quite injury prone, but even if he wasn't, there's no way he was worth that sum at 31 years old.
Also, that signing pushed away Locatelli, without getting a short term improvement. I would have kept Jos? Sosa that in 2017 spring was starting to figure out how to play the deep lying playmaker role, instead of giving him away for pennies. |
