I'll be rooting for Russia.
Safin has always been one of my favourite players since I consider his style similar to my own when I held a racket. I mean powerful winners and bad temper.
I kind of dislike the fact that Russia always seems to have home-ground advantage(in the finals). Maybe it's just me cause I don't follow the things so detailed but probably it's because other teams have succeeded more in the past and there's a rule about it.

LOL :D I didn't know you play tennis :)
I haven't a clue about Russia always having the home advantage. I've never been a great tennis fan

You didn't see that I used past tense. Last time when I played the game took my thoughts to "How do injur myself so that I wouldn't have to play?" so now I've been without playing like 1,5 years. Played since I was 7 till 14 in the competitions and after that just *for fun*

Anyway the home-ground is a major argument on the game. Since we all know some countries have more sun and some less. The ones with more of it (are likely to) produce soft court players. And the ones who have to play indoor most of the year are the ones who (are likely) to produce hard-court players. Argentina, Spain always like to play on "Roland Garros" court and their opponents always use hard-court.
And there's a chance to put the match on a court others have never seen. Like Estonians did with Egypt. Our national team welcommed them on wood. Common for some of us but a sightseeing for others. Nowadays the reglement made some changes so you can't take the play on a court that's something like Chelsea's before Barca game nor on wood IfIRememberItCorrectly(IIRIC).

I knew this part about players from Latin America and Spain doing well in the French Open and Americans and the English doing well on grass and hard courts, but this 'Sun' factor is new to me. Thanks :)

As for manipulating the playing surface, we do that a lot in India - if only in cricket. People prepare pitches that aid spin bowling (at which India is good at) and opposition batsmen are often left clueless.

So it's even-steven and the 5-th match. This rocks. All in the hands of Safin(and Chela) now.

Yes, indeed he played a great match. I have to admitt that also Acasuso had a good match and that's why this last match was the most beautiful.
The way Safin played prouves what a great tennis player he is. Let's hope this good form continues :)
