The TV Commentators said that they just skip the preliminary rounds of the Europa League. I wouldn't take this as full fact, however.

They definitely play in it next year.

However, I'm unsure about the straight to group-stage rule...

It's a bit odd for a finalist either starting in one round or another depending on final performance.

Surely, that'd make another result elsewhere in Europe completely pointless, because if Wigan choose to win, they're bumped down the the 3rd Qualifying round...
