Default Official: Christian Abbiati Thread

Well, if Abbiati had his own thread at one point, I can't find it anywhere, so I'll just start a new one. This can be Stickied at any time.

To start things off, here's a recent interview (in Italian) on Goal.com.

Good riddance. We have like 20 threads with his name but I guess all of them, are pre 'official' era. Don't see a need to merge all them too.

ABBIATI: 'Soddisfatto della mia prestazione'
29/07/2008

Looks like Abbiati believes that the first choice keeper will be decided in the upcoming weeks.

He took a big step in putting Kalac into his place. His performance in that game was quite outstanding... he's alert and athletic. He's pretty mobile too... Kalac is good, but not very fast.

Abbiati was musturd against Inter.
Great reactions, personally (and not just because of the performance against Inter) I don't know why we let him go in the first place

Not to put too much weight in a 45-minute preseason performance but I think Abbiati was the best GK on the squad even before the TIM Cup games. If the performances in training are going anything like what we saw yesterday, I expect Abbiati to be between the posts come August 31 or soon thereafter.

Calcio Debate: Who Should Be Milan’s No.1?
Milan have three experienced goalkeepers in their squad for the coming season, in the form of Zeljko Kalac, Christian Abbiati and Nelson Dida, but neither of them particularly stand out as a cut above the rest. So who deserves to be Milan’s No.1?

I didn't know in which player thread to post this in so I'll just post it in this one.

That's not entirely difficult in any regard.

Still to early yet to make a choice.... I think the tournament in Russia would be the best stage for all of them and pass judgement then.

Abbiati did look good for the time he was in. The best in the TIM

Kalac looked horrible on those two goals. I mean the effort was just ridiculous. He didnt even look like he was really trying to stop them. Not that it would be easy but shit make it look like your putting more of an effort into it.

I'd really like to see an Abbiati/Dida rotation in the Railways Cup.

On that note, here's an article from milannews.it that claims Abbiati will be our number one:

Interesting read.

Wasn't he the 2nd best goalie in Spain last season? If so I'd think he'd be the obvious choice for #1... don't see what all the fuss is about.

ANCELOTTI, Elogi per Abbiati
02.08.2008

Well.. apparently, it seems like Abbiati's position as our number one is his to lose.
