Giampaolo has now left Milano after meeting with Maldini to arrange the final details in view of the now-defined agreement to become the new Milan coach. At this point, only the official announcement is missing. [Sky]

He actually ran away from the city because Maldini said something? Stay Marco.

Welcome Marco "9th place" Giampaolo. :o

Where did allegri finish with cagliari?
Where did sarri finish with emopoli?

I admit I wasn't thrilled about giampaolo, but he appears to be very highly rated in Italy and im more confident than before

We need to sign a star player like isco or james to bring people to the stadium. Isco would be my preference. We need a star player in each department to bring the best out of the supporting casr. Sadly, i don't think we are ready or willing to make such an investment

Yes, our recent star signings went really well.

Guys,

I get that we're all trying to be positive and show a brave face in the situation we're in. But we don't need to pretend that these players we're linked to are great either.

I think if Elliott wants to raise the value of the club then they also need to ensure that Milan has something that even the casual fan would like to see.

Real Madrid has been shopping Bale around for quite a bit. Might it be time to get that one marquee player that would encourage ppl to go to the stadiums? Everything regarding Gareth Bale needs to drop significantly...his price tag and his wages. I hope we can maintain the interest in this club for the casuals and the potential new fans...it will only benefit all stakeholders on numerous fronts and hopefully we'll be done with Elliott soon.

I think you and many fans aren’t looking at this in the right perspective.

Milan was ONE point away from CL. This team doesn’t need marquee signings to make the CL. Getting top 4 is the immediate goal right now, it will bring more money and give us the opportunity to sign those top players you’re asking for.

Milan needs a deeper team, not necessarily a better team( we do long term but not necessarily for too 4). Key injuries hurt us last season, injuries to players like Paqueta at the end, and Biglia and Bonaventura for long stretches. Imagine if we had these guys on the bench instead of Monto, Bertie and Mauri. Safe to say we’d be top 4. And I’m not saying Veretout and Sensi are being brought in to be bench options only, I’m saying will be a healthy rotation of solid to good players.

Hakan and Kessie are both good, they’ve given us good performances and helped us go on long runs of good form, beating teams like lazio, Napoli and Roma in a matter of weeks. But they’ve also shown a tendency to go through patches of bad form. Being able to replace them with other players around their level is probably what separated this team from already being comfortably in third, considering how close we already were.

Now, my point is only valid if we keep the core of the team intact. If we sell Suso, Kessie, Hakan and Gigio id agree that I don’t like replacing them with Sensi or whoever. But ADDING them to an already competitive squad is positive I think.

Perfectly reasonable of course but the thing about marquee players is that these are the ones who generate the buzz, the clicks, the column inches, the tickets and the ESPN commentaries. I can't quantify this but I am sure it translates into a dollar value for the club.

You think anyone gives a shit about Atalanta despite them being in the CL? You think there's any chance that they will get the media hype say Arsenal will get despite the latter not even being in the CL?
Hell no. In addition to the EPL factor there is the marquee player factor. Ppl want to talk about and see Aubameyang, Ozil, Lacazette etc.

You think kids will buy a Chronic / Veretout jersey? I get the pragmatic reason for the purchase...but the business of football necessarily involves managing less well defined quantities like romance and emotions. It is imperative to increase the hype, the public feelings about the club

Sensi- Baka, downgrade.

Veretout-Hakan, also not upgrade at all.

Kouame-Suso, not upgrade. I didn't like Suso but he was clearly effective player which you can't say for Kouame.

Krunić is the only upgrade over Fodder/Monto/Mauri but he's planned to be backup anyway.

So, they basically wants to build team who's even worse than last season and who couldn't reach CL. How the hell they want to reach it this season, with better rivals?
I don't think that Roma can repeat awful season and Lazio/Atalanta will be tough rivals like always. And there is no need to mention Merda, Rube and Napoli, they're clear top 3.

If they want to replace them with Monto, Berto, Mauri, Biglia, then fine, I'm ok with that. But I really doubt that they will pay 25+m for Veretout and send him to warm bench seats.

Sensi is a better footballer than Baka. Baka has physucal traits that cannot be taught. Sensi is the better passer, more technical player, a regista. Baka is a specialist player, a destroyer with some unique physical abilities but to be best utilizes needs specific players around him. Sensi can slot into more than one role, he is more versatile and does not require you to surround him with specific players to supplement his weaknesses like Baka did.

@Leaf

I agree, that’s why I said the short term goal is making too 4, long term is giving Milan a team of superstars we’re used to seeing. I believe getting into the Champions league will give us that boost to sign those players. Do you think Napoli could sign a big name player like James(massive star) without being in the champions league consistently? I think Milan has more pull than most fans think we do, but it’s obvious we can’t really attract the biggest names yet. If we did we’d have to massively overpay, and that’s not what Elliot wants to do. Once/if Elliot gets us into the champions league I will judge them a lot differently

Hey Pingpoo you're actually happy about this? Only an Interista like you could be aroused by the appointment of a midtable coach and ejaculate over fodder signings like Krunic

Go ahead and laugh all you want because I'll be laughing harder in a year when he misses CL and gets axed

This is actually a pathetic post for so many reasons.

Not only are you rooting against our new coach, you’ve bagged my favourite poster on this forum, not cool

Looks like Totti is about to rage quit Roma. Wouldn’t mind him as a Paqueta sub in Europa League. Perfect in the hole for Giampaolo.

Another thing of concern is that the team is almost entirely made up of the same level of starters. Totally devoid of difference makers

For example if we had Isco at the tip of the diamond, and a bomber support striker in the mold of Sheva/Kaka/Henry behind Piatek, then a supporting cast of 3 of Paqueta/Kessie/Sensi/Praet/Krunic/Veretout/Pulgar would be fine to even finish top 3 because we have a world class playmaker to create chances to win games and a top notch support striker to boot. We would make the champions league next year for sure. Also in such a team you can move Paqueta forward if either the support striker or the playmaker is out

We are in trouble if our midfield consists of Krunic/Veretout/Sensi level players come the end of the end of the transfer market. Paqueta would have no back up and our team would be average as hell esp if we got a support striker like Koume who isn't anywhere near ready.

We might even be worse than now
