Bordeaux name Tigana as Blanc replacement

Bordeaux have announced that former player Jean Tigana will be the club's new manager, taking up the position made vacant by Laurent Blanc's departure to coach the French national team.

Tigana, 54, has been out of management since leaving Turkish side Besiktas in 2007 and will likely be welcomed with open arms at Bordeaux - the club where he spent eight years of a hugely successful playing career.

The former Fulham boss won three league titles and two French Cups with les Girondins as a player, and was an integral part of France's 1984 European Championship-winning side.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud was keen to find a replacement for the departing Blanc as soon as possible, plumping for Tigana after being impressed with the Mali-born boss in two interviews.

Tigana has an impressive managerial track record, especially in France, where he led Lyon to second place in Ligue 1 in 1995, before guiding Monaco to their sixth league title in 1997.

He departed French shores for England in 2000, where he took the reins at Fulham, masterminding their promotion to the Premier League in his first season and securing an impressive 13th-place finish and European football in his second.

Tigana was sacked by the Cottagers in 2003 and eventually won a £2 million payout from the club for wrongful dismissal, moving on to Besiktas, where he won two successive Turkish Cups.

He is expected to sign a two-year deal as coach and will be presented to the press at the club's Haillan training ground on Tuesday.

I think he'll be a good appointment for them. I'd say France will be a serious threat at the Euros with Blanc in charge

Yoan Gouffran is apparently not in new coaches plans at Bordeaux and will be sold (probably very cheap).

what does anyone think of him? He is ridiculously fast, and pretty decently skilled winger/forward. Might be worth a gamble

And 'RTL radio to launch the sensational news about the two samples of French national, according to Ansa reported, would be accused of having had relations with an escort of Maghreb origin, Zahia D, when they was still a minor.

We await further developments, but the story certainly gives further discordant note in the summer club in the French ..

Gignac and Rémy added to OM armoury

Olympique de Marseille have signed André-Pierre Gignac from Toulouse FC while confirming that a heart anomaly "will not prevent" another new striker, Loïc Rémy, from doing his job.

Olympique de Marseille have signed André-Pierre Gignac from Toulouse FC for a reported €18m fee, while confirming that his €13m fellow France striker Loïc Rémy will be able to play for the club despite concerns over a heart problem.

Gignac, 24, has agreed a four-year contract with the French champions and the player born in Martigues – not far from Marseille – said it would be "a great source of pride to play for the team I supported as a boy". The centre-forward, who began his professional career at FC Lorient, has scored four goals in 16 appearances for France along with the 34 he managed in 98 league games for Toulouse.

Ligue 1's top marksman in 2008/09 with 24 strikes, Gignac will line up alongside Rémy now that the 23-year-old's move from OGC Nice has been rubber-stamped after the conclusion of medical tests. Rémy accepted a five-term deal with OM last week as part of a €13m transfer from Nice, but his future was thrown into doubt after he was diagnosed with a heart condition. Yet following consultations with three cardiologists, Marseille's chief medical officer Christophe Baudet said that the player's problem "will not prevent him from doing his job".

Capped twice by France, Rémy had been linked with a number of clubs having registered 26 times in 68 league fixtures for Nice. "He is a young international with huge potential, fast and powerful," said OM coach Didier Deschamps. "The good thing is he can play in every position up front. I'm happy to get him." Rémy is viewed as a replacement for Mamadou Niang – scorer of 18 Ligue 1 goals last season – who recently departed for Fenerbahçe SK. Deschamps has also let Fernando Morientes and Bakari Koné leave the Stade Vélodrome this summer. OM will discover their UEFA Champions League group stage opponents when the draw is made in Monaco on Thursday.

Monaco plays Auxerre on Sunday. Hopefully Pierre will do us proud against our soon to be CL opponents.

Whoever helps make Milan untouchable
Seems to be regaining confidence and as a result his form. Showed some superb technique all over the field – juggling the ball outrageously in his own corner at one stage. Struck the second goal in a pulsating match.

Yeaaaah! Gourcuff is back to being Godlike in Lyon!

I guess it's no fun talking about him if he's doing well ;)

Table is stacked after every week, it seems. 12 clubs are threats with about four of them (PSG, Lyon, Marseille, and Lille) being legitimate contenders.

Lille and Lorient was an instant classic. If Milan scouts were at that match, they probably sent an offer for Gameiro after the 90th minute. Lorient kind of tired themselves out midway through the second and Lille took control from the 75th minute onwards.

"Top" of the table matches next week include:

Lyon v. Toulouse
Brest v. Montpellier
Bordeaux v. Rennes
