Di Marzio: Giampaolo will sign with Milan today.
Di Marzio: Giampaolo will sign with Milan today.
For the record, these were the standout midfielders from Serie A in 2018/19:
Fabian, Veretout, Zielinski, Bennacer, Krunic, Praet, Bentancur, Pjanic, Hamed Traore, Sensi, Hateboer, Freuler, Post-Sinisa Pulgar.
Any of these would be good moves. In this project, we could end up signing any of them.
He's created the 2nd most chances next to Pjanic over the last two seasons (129), he's become a more influential and dangerous player. It's fine to be very good at everything, rather than a specialist.
I'd add Lucas Leiva and Bentancur.

Leiva had a huge drop last season plus a couple of injuries & bentancur is already there.

When Rade Krunic first landed in Italy as a Hellas Verona player, little did he know that within five years he would be part of one of the most prestigious clubs in all of Italy, but also the world, with the Bosnian now an AC Milan player, as the Rossoneri plan another rebirth.
With Krunic, Milan have done a fantastic piece of business. Watching Krunic finish with some skill was one of the surprises of Serie A 2018/19, as part of one of the most entertaining midfields in Italy, even despite Empoli’s relegation. Now, for €8 million, Krunic will look to become part of a new Rossoneri midfield, in a brilliant value-for-money deal.
Born in Foca, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the October 7, 1993, Krunic was brought to Italy in 2014 by Verona, who acquired him form Donji Srem. He was loaned out straight away back to the same club he came from, and then after some trouble ended up signing for Empoli in July 2015.
In his four seasons in Tuscany, Krunic suffered two relegations from Serie A, but individually he improved dramatically, scoring five goals in 2018/19 Serie A campaign, some of them absolute stunners.
Combining physical strength with a decent amount of quality, Krunic is a modern, complete midfielder, who ideally does his best playing as a mezzala in a 4-3-3 system.
Showing both great passing skills and solid in recovering of possession, he was the heart of Empoli’s midfield, with Ismael Bennacer being the brain, and Hamed Junior Traore the lungs. A perfect combination for Empoli, all three being consistent throughout the season.
The Bosnian also demonstrated great mentality in most games, being constantly focussed and a presence that couldn’t go unnoticed in midfield. Any opponent that faced him will have found him difficult to surpass, and tough to stop.
Krunic’s two highlights came with a lovely long range shot at SPAL, and a beautiful chipped finish against Sassuolo after dribbling past three opponents. These two goals show all his repertoire, from power to accuracy, then quality and composure on the ball to ice-cool finishing.
Currently, Krunic resembles the likes of Jasmin Kurtic of SPAL or Juraj Kucka of Parma, but he has the potential to raise the bar and have a more high end career. Someone like Sami Khedira could be his perfect model – an all round midfielder with an eye for goal.
Of course, Milan directors Paolo Maldini and the incoming Zvonimir Boban would be very happy with him just being even half as good as prime Khedira, justifying the investment and helping Milan out of the slump they’re in at the moment.
The reported number on new arrivals for next season was 8. The focus atm is clearly on players that only appeal to the hardcore Calcio fans, I'm sure 1 or 2 that excites the casuals will also arrive.

20m for a soon to be 29 year old centre back who is mistake prone and injury prone is a good deal? No fucking way is that a good deal. He’s worse than Musacchio.
Going to be another player we sign and in two years we can’t get rid of because of his injury history and wages. He’ll end up leaving Milan for free just like the rest of the old injury prone duds we sign. We can’t be signing players with no resale value anymore. The club can’t afford a player to flop and lose them for nothing while they get paid wages for years.
BIG NO TO LOVREN
Missed Bentancur
You're about Leiva also, but he still played better most other Lazio players besides Correa.
What do you guys think of a player like Erick Pulgar of Bologna? The few Bologna games I saw he looked impressive including their narrow loss to Milan. Maybe he was just over performing in those games?

With all of this Giampaolo 4312 hype
Suso is become more and more irrelevant
Biglia-Kessie are becoming central
Hakan is suddenly relevant (CAM & CM)
Borini is less important but still relevant.
Mirabelli boys turns out to be more important than ww thought.
Maybe if Andre Silva comes back and do well, maybe Mirabelli is actually world class SD
Rade Krunic and Milan, done deal. The Bosnian Empoli midfielder is coming in with the Rossoneri, medical visits are already scheduled next week with a signature on a 4-year contract that awaits him. An operation that comes from far away: Krunic had been blocked in early May when Leonardo was still at the helm of Milan, the Brazilian manager had stopped any other offer giving guarantees to Empoli also because Paolo Maldini approved that type of solution, even he is an admirer of the low-cost midfielder. Everything would have been blocked only in case of rejection by the new coach.
FROM BOBAN TO TRAINING - Marco Giampaolo, on the other hand, did not explicitly request Krunic, but when he was subjected to the name, he gladly accepted the operation to make his own mezz ala. There is more: Rade can be considered the first purchase of Zvonimir Boban, he also approved it as a new arrival in the Rossoneri asking for opinions from his closest men about the player on and off the pitch. Zvone will return to Milan in a short lap, this purchase confirms it and as early as next week Fifa is expected to be official. Meanwhile, the Rossoneri executives have also moved another pawn: a man from Milan has observed Krunic in the last 6 months in every game but even in training at Empoli, with the company's authorization. Grit, hunger, technique, tenacity: the Devil is convinced, Giampaolo and Boban have approved. Krunic will be the Rossoneri, yesterday the tearful call to the family from the holidays: "I realize my dream, I don't believe it yet". The finish is cut. (Fabrizio Romano)
