surprised Kean was left out of Italy squad with Bernardeschi and Politano being there

Politano has improved this season and deserves a spot in my opinion. Bernadeschi shouldn't have been anywhere near the NT

Yeah Bernardeschi doesn’t belong there, but Mancini played with him before and he can play on the Lw position which is very thin. He might join the final squad but won’t play much.

I believe it will be better to keep one EURO 2020 thread for all matches (group stage + knock out) rather than creating a sub-forum and create threads per individual group/knock out match. We are used to this kind of drop-it-in-one thread mechanism already.

All say yay or ney?
Yay

Spain coach Luis Enrique on selecting 24 players instead of 26: "We don't want to take any more because we want everyone to have a chance of playing, and we know that only around 18 or 19 will actually play.?

How stupid

Raspadori the only surprise here, bold choice but I don't really know the kid. Probably won't see many minutes.

I was supposed to be at Italy vs Turkey, but then, you know, the world went to shit. Sad times.

I think Italy will top the group, but the first game could end up in a draw.

I think Italy go through, topping the group with 7 points.

Italy
Turkey
Wales
Switzerland

Starting line-up: Donnarumma; Florenzi, Bonucci, Chiellini, Emerson; Barella, Jorginho, Verratti; Chiesa, Immobile, Insigne

Italy vs Turkey, where fans invade the stadium to throw fake money at both Donnarumma and Hakan.

Verratti is starting the tournament not being 100% fit, so we might see Locatelli in the first games

Yep, I hope so.

Just think Mancini will really be reluctant to drop Verratti even if he is sort of fit.

Group A is a tricky one, all teams shouldn't underestimate each other and everyone can beat everyone.

To some Italy are considered THE dark-horse of the competition. Mostly because they are on an unbeaten run of 26 games. They don't always have played the best football but they have managed to get results with ease. BUT it has to be said, only Poland and the Netherlands (in the nations league) were their biggest tests so far.

A lot of hype around turkey as well, mostly because they beat France and the Netherlands. But they also had a disastrous run in the Nations League B. They have great young talents and of course Hakan. Definitely a team to watch, a team that can surprise. Also I've heard that Turkey in Baku can be considered as home games, kind of.

There are mixed opinions on who's favourite for 2nd place, Turkey or Switzerland. What Turkey lacks, Switzerland has and that is experience and that might be the key. Switzerland were also group leaders, finishing above a good playing Denmark.

A lot of people expect Wales to be worst of this group since they are not in form anymore. But they probably are on their best when they are the underdogs. They have proven to get results when needed and also were one of the biggest surprises last euros. On a good day they have a tough defence to break through.

All teams play defensively well so I expect few goals and maybe couple of draws. I also expect some surprising results. A tough group to predict as I see it going any way, but let's try for fun. I probably change my mind later.

1 Italy 6pts +1
2 Turkey 4pts +2
3 Switzerland 4pts -1
4 Wales 4pts -2

Why not? France and Portugal already had their moments. Germany and Spain are not on their best. England is never really a threat. So who is left?

Im still not used to Belgium being contenders, as i grew up with best players as Gert Verheyen being the better players
Italy and Croatia have a unified team.
And do not underestimate Shevchenko and his secret squad.

Holland is also a team that can grow in this tournament.

I agree in the sense that it is a very open tournament

Lots of teams that can surprise or hurt bigger teams

The power rankings in my opinion are:

1. France
2. Belgium
3. Portugal
4. England
5. Italy
6. Spain
7. Germany
8. Holland

This is how I see the team strength based on their squads for the tournament
