I remember that 86 WC second round match like it was yesterday. Spain thrashing the Danes 5-1 with Emilio scoring 4.

i remember west germany vs holland in Italia 90

rudi voller and rijkaard were involved in a spitting incident and both players got sent off...

then jurgen klinsmann put on the performance of the tournament to push germany to beat the then euro champs 2-1... that sent West Germany into the Q-Finals.

that aside... what a shitty world cup that was...

The most angry game i had been seen in WC is 2002 WC Italy VS Korea and Spain VS Korea. I think i don't need to say anything, all the people who had been seen those 2 games must be also very angry.

Cheat !!!!

Yeah...that was probably the best game in the whole tournament. The Milan Trio vs the Inter Trio playing at the San Siro. The game cannot get more charged up. And what a curl from Brehme (similar to Maniche strike vs Holland in Euro 2004).

Another great game (IMO) is Brazil vs Argentina at the Delle Alpi. Brazil with Careca, Muller, Taffarel, Dunga, Alemao and Argentina with Maradona, Goycochea (penalty specialist) and Caniggia (style of play very similar to Pippo but run so much faster). Brazil had Argentina pinned down for the whole game only to be undone Diego (surrounded by 3 players) with a threading pass to Caniggia who round off Taffarel then scored.

Those 2 games above should be in the QF at least but they had to face off each other due to the great performance of 2 African Nations : Cameroon and Egypt. Cameroon beat Argentina and Romania while Egypt held Ireland and Holland drew. As the result these 2 greats (Netherland European Champion while Argentina World Cup defending Champion) had to qualify as the 3rd placers in their groups.

The Danish coach (Sepp Piontek) panicked after Spain took the lead 2-1. He took off a defender and brought in a striker. El Futre Butragueno finished them off.

The 90' WC was incredible...for my country. I was just 3, actually 2, but I clearly remember after we beat both Scotland & Sweaden, that the streets were crazy, even the president was out there celebrating with the rest. That italian summer will never be forgotten by Costa Rica. I get chills just remembering the goals we scored.
Plus WC 1990 has one of the best(if not the best) WC song.

but the best word cup i had the pleasure to follow the whole way through was probably france98.... that was a great tournament and had a good vibe about it and just the right amount of drama (without being over injustice) 90 and 02 were unmemorable.... 94 was alright but the whole idea of the yankees calling it a soccer world cup just put me off forever....

Yeah, I hate the idea of the yankees get the fake soccer fever (although they made very good host). My favorite WC was Mexico 86. I was only 10, during school holiday so I had many chances to follow the game. Although Indonesian TV only shown few games live (QF above) but I was totally enthralled (thanks to Maradona).

My least fave was France 98, because I was studying in a country when soccer was not really known and it was their first time ever broadcasting soccer games live. Since they are so used to broadcasting NBA games, they stopped the game every 10 minutes or so for commercial breaks (3-4 minutes). In fact, after the normal time of France vs Paraguay game when the score was still tied, they didn't show the extra time since they thought the game is already over like in group stages. Many of us made frantic calls to the TV station and then they showed it back, 10 minutes into the 1st period of extra time.

for me 1990 was a good one... until the semi-finals.

Cameroon did a great surprise there, Roger Milla rocks the world with his dance in the corner... Rene Higuita from Colombia also surprised the world with his eccentricity..

Argentina vs Yugoslavia was really entertaining... Maradona missed a penalty but Argentina still managed to win the shootout.

Too bad, the semi finals and finals were both boring, had to be decided with penalties.

But the best one for me was the 98... cos my favourite team did some excellent matches... Holland vs Argentina 2-1 and Brazil vs Holland 1-1.. both were the most entertaining matches in 98...

Best games in previous WCs for me:
- 86 : France vs Brazil (1-1, Zico and Platini missed penalty, 5-4 for France after penalty shoot out)
- 90 : Germany vs Holland (2-1 Germany, 2 red cards for Voeller and Rijkaard)
- 94 : Brazil vs Holland (3-2 Brazil, 0-0 in 1st half, Holland came back from 2-0 down)
- 98 : Holland vs Argentina (2 red cards for Ortega and Arthur Nuiman, goal of the tournament by Bergkamp)
- 02 : Brazil vs England (Man of the Match Ronaldinho: 1 assist, 1 goal, 1 red card :D)

Haha France 98 for me was one of the best world cups. I watched most of the matches and won a lot of bets. Simply awesome. I didnt like the last world cup...cuz of the contreversies and the timing.

Yes, I admit Korea is a good team and they have some good players + their football is beautiful sometimes....... ( at least, even if the referee helps China as the referee helps Juventus in Serie A, i still 100% believe China can't beat Italy and Spain )..:head:

I konw Korea beat Poland and beat Protogue are true, and they played very well in these 2 games.... But i think you must admit if the referee didn't make some mistakes, Korea couldn't win Italy and Spain !:D

Korea managed to beat Portugal because Portugal had 2 men sent off. Some mistakes by referee? There were lots of mistakes in those 2 games vs Spain and Italy, enough to make Robert Hoyser cringed with embarassment. Korea could never win those 2 games. I am Asian but I feel ashamed.

I think its better not to talk about the matches against Spain and Italy with Moreno incharge.
I think people who watched the game can draw their own conclusions about how those two teams where robbed.

I have only watched live France's 98 and Corea/Japan 02... the 98 one is very special to me for being the first I saw... but Corea and Japan was very dissapointing for all the controversies with referees...

Of the 2 World Cups in Mexico, 70 and 86, my dad and my grandpa always tell me about those games and stuff... In my city we have a structure in rememberance of the World Cup 86, pretty nice... My dad and grandpa used to go watch the games at the Azteca Stadium...but the one story that they always tell and they like above all is the 1970 semifinal game between Italy and Germany which ended 4-3 (in favour of Italy), the which was extremely dramatic, Gianni Rivera scoring the last goal when 10 min were left... and the thing I hate the most about the 2 World Cups in my country is that Maradroga lifted the cup in 86, after scoring with his hand, pretty shameful for me to say that it happened in my country...
I hope this World Cup will be better... specially that I will be able to see all games...
