Mexes is way too much risk. I just read he say he has only played 36 games in Serie A in the past 2 seasons, and now he has a torn ACL, so he will be out 6 months.
Since he is "free" we would have to pay him 3.5+ million per season, for a player that hasnt been able to stay healthy, and he is 29 already. That is already not young, especially when he has been so injury prone. Plus he really isnt even that great when he is healthy.
So why take all that risk and spend all that money? it just doesnt make sense why we should not take the chance on our talented young guys, Sokratis and Astori, instead of giving up on them for a player that will be on the wrong side of 30 before the end of next season? we should focus on the developing the young ones instead of overpaying for a 29 year old that has never been a WC player
Because B wants too
I agree that youth is the key to our continued success, but if that was the case for Papa Berlu we wouldn't have seen Dinho, Beckham, Mancini etc coming in when other players were needed... As I say, I'm not going to get to worked up about Mexes, as long as he's not paid more than 3.5 million that is. We have more pressing issues than Nesta's back up!
Mexes or Astori are not essential to our continued development to a WC team again... They could be influential further down the line, Mexes as a bad choice if he's to be Nesta's replacement on the cheap and as for Astori, only time will tell if he's to become a high quality CB.
One thing I'd say about Astori, if you look at how Abate has developed in a short space of time with the correct enviroment a little faith and hard work, whose to say Astori, whose the same age cant make the step up in a short space of time as well?
spartan, you dont seem to understand, Galliani and co want to win titles, you dont win titles with astori and sokraites replacing nesta.
Mexes is the ideal signing for us, free, experienced, technical modern CB who is WC when on form.
if Yepes and Nesta were 5 years younger, I wouldnt rush into signing mexes, but we do need him esp that hes free.
I wouldnt say we're assured titles when Nesta retires with mexes taking over...
