After today's matches, a big surprise: Ivan Ljubicic (4) was defeated by Mardy Fish.
Marat Safin had a 5 set game with Benjamin Becker. What a game .... Good that Marat won :D

Thats not a surprise. Federer is like King of men's tennis. :D
Im also a fan of the Australian dude Lleyton Hewitt. It would be a great men's finals between the 2 ;)

Marat Safin survived another scare in his second round match recovering from two set to one down before beating Dudi Sela 6-3 5-7 4-6 7-6 6-0.

The 3rd round will be a tough one : :star: Safin - Roddick :star:  Hope Safin wins, but it won't be so easy, Roddick is in good form and I think he's the favourite in this game.

Safin has this habit of making life difficult for himself. Maybe that's got to do with the knowledge that he can turn any game around when he wants to.

New star on the block down here in OZ... his name is Gael Monfils. Awesome talent, beat Marcos Baghdatis, last years hero.

Yes, but you have to agree that Bagdadis was not in good form for this AO. I was sure he is going to be defeated in the early rounds. Monfils has talent, but he has a lot to work, to define his shots ... anyway he's young, so he has plenty of time.

Untill now, I have to say that surprised me only the 1st round exit of Ljubicic.

As for Safin's 5 set matches ... in danger of heartattacks. Indeed, it's so hard to be a Safin fan :D

For the next game, Roddick-Safin, I won't be so tense because I won't be surprised if Roddick wins.
Still... Davai Marat !!! :star:

My favourite lost  If he would have taken the chances he had, especially that the 1st set should have been his.
Too bad that these 2 players met in the 3rd round :head:

Anyhow, untill next time :)

same here... during the last set I knew that if it went into tie break, Safin would lose... he's very talented, even more than Roddick, but something's wrong with his character :head:

22 aces... damn

^Na he's an arrogant prick. Not many ppl like him in Australia let alone the world. I just hope he goes alright cos he's Aussie but I couldn't care less if he won or not. Wayne Arthurs had a more realistic chance of winning the Open than Hewitt did.

Hes arrogant ? He don't look like one. Was it because he looks serious on the court + he hardly smiles and that gave you the impression he was arrogant ? :conf:

It's not so much his on court antics its off court... just the way he address the press and opponents in general.

Like his incidents with Naldbandian and other Argentinian tennis players... he can't go to Argentina without an army to protect him

Naldbandian is Hewitt but 10 times more of a prick with long hair. I don't blame Hewitt for acting the way he does against some Argentinian players because of what they are like. Especially Naldbandian!

Both Hewitt and Nalbandian are known as not having too much fair-play. Anyhow, they are good players.

So, the QuarterFinals :

Federer - Robredo
Fish - Roddick
Haas - Berdych or Davydenko
Gonzalez - Murray or Nadal
