There are a slew of rules in place to ensure an equitable and fair schedule that doesn’t compromise the level of competition in any way.

Official SERIE A schedule:
There are a slew of rules in place to ensure an equitable and fair schedule that doesn’t compromise the level of competition in any way.
- last four games of the season will have teams play home, away, home, away (or vice versa) in perfect alteration
- a team can not play more than two consecutive home or away matches
- teams in close proximity and/or sharing a stadium must alternate home/away matches, ie, can’t play home or away on the same matchday, this applies to:
BOLOGNA – SPAL
CHIEVO VERONA – HELLAS VERONA
GENOA – SAMPDORIA
INTER – MILAN
JUVENTUS – TORINO
LAZIO – ROMA - clubs who played their last game of the season away last year, will play at home this year
- no derbies can be played in mid-week fixtures, and no mid-week fixtures involving head-to-head matchups between Inter, Juventus, Milan and Roma
- there can’t be any repeat of a match from the previous season (match played on the same day and location) in respect of the 2016-17 calendar
- Teams involved in European competition can’t face each other following their scheduled Champions League or Europa League match
