What did Croatia really do in attack? They did nothing. Their 2 most clear chances were 2 Vida's headers that should have gone in but he missed them.

considering croatia were overwhelming favourites for the game its a bit ridiculous to say the were "better" because they had 2 shots vs portugals 1.

Croatia could and should have done better. You could see that they were the dominant team, but last third of the pitch was a problem.

Congrats to Portugal. Would be cool if Ronaldo could win a big tournament with the NT.

Btw, I don't like Ronaldo as a striker. He should play on the wing.

He gets too isolated in the middle imo. Rarely gets to use his speed wich is his biggest strenght.

Croatia were not good enough against a very poor Portugal side.

Also, it's not like Croatia have a stellar attack.

Perisic is a decent winger, Mandzukic is a decent striker and Kalinic is an alright forward. None are going to win you games singlehandedly.

He needs a striker to create space for him, so that he can come in from the left. That is when he's at his most deadliest. But Portugal brought only one striker in Eder, and he is apparently the worst striker of all time.
It's a shame because Raphael Guerreiro at LB is very much like Marcelo, and he looks to have a good understanding with Ronaldo the few times he's drifted left.

The way this Portugal team is lining up, 4-1-3-2 with Ronaldo and Nani up top as somewhat false strikers, a CM (Moutinho, Adrien Silva, Renato Sanches) to bring the ball forward, and two ball playing wide mids (Joao Mario and Andre Gomes), you would expect them to be strong on the counter, but it's just not been happening because their passing is just weak, they simply have no one who can play the ball long quickly with consistent accuracy (Kroos and Modric at Real). I would go so far as to say Cristiano is the best passer in the team.
Simply getting men behind the ball and harassing Portuguese mids have been enough to stop their attack completely, like Croatia did for the majority of the match last night.

They've tried to put in crosses but often it's only Ronaldo and Nani who are in the box, or Nani who goes wide, takes the ball and puts it in to just Ronaldo. The wide mids have been very disappointing, especially Andre Gomes, simply haven't delivered. Quaresma probably should start the next game.
