so that's one for the future now lets think about the present.

I've said for ages that we should just sell him or use him as part of a deal to get another player, yet some still say he can help from the bench. He's surely 5th, 6th CB material, not 3rd or 4th... Not ever going to be Milan material. He'll show signs of being ok, but thats it, thats as far as his ability goes, he could be ok... Is that what we want for Milan, just ok?

If we've got the Ely kid then thats a nice move, where did you hear this? But he's not going to really help us any time soon, I've never heard of a 16 year old making an impact in a big teams defence at that age.

Maybe getting Mexes will work, but I'd love to see us getting rid of Bonera, maybe getting Astori back might work as a cheap option if thats what our management want, at least then when Nesta's falls foul of an injury we truelly have a couple of Serie A quality defenders.

Maybe the goal is to get Mexes then splash big on a LB... We'll soon see. But if Bonera just simpley isn't good enough and Papa maybe needs some time to develop, then Bonera should be sold, Gooch as well, then send Papa on loan somewhere and bring in Mexes as 3rd choice and Ely, but I'd still think we could accomodate and afford Sakho!

Milan have a history of having WC defences, and defences brimming with quality, not a couple of decent players, but a plethora of them. At least we're being linked heavily with players that are better than what we have, thats always going to be a step in the right direction!

sign him ASAP, he can keep playing in Serie A so Nesta or Silva can be rotated before we play in CL ..

Its about our current situation and if we can get Mexes that's how we could play all of them; i personally think it would be a very tough defence.

So you'd break up possibly the best CB pairing in the World to try him at LB? Interesting idea, but not one I'd like to try out, unless Al knows something we dont. We could move Silva to LB, or we could go crazy and buy a high quality LB :tongue:

I think we should keep Silva as CB because he is one of the Best CB in the World.
Just buy LB & New CB like Sakho.

If Mexes can come for free, it's ok, than we have to get rid of Bonera and Antonini...

What bout Nesta

I know what you mean though mate, it would be nice to have a player that is Nesta's replacement longterm, I see Mexes as back up to whoever comes in as Nesta's replacement... Either this or next season is surely going to be Nesta's last with us, so Sakho in the Summer make sense, with Mexes coming in January. Then when Nesta leaves/retires we have Silva, Sakho and Mexes as our 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice CBs, with Ely or Papa as our prospects I suppose.

Agree, main priority this January should be a LB IMO. Coentrao and Criscito are two great choices, Ziegler a decent one.

I think he's away to Spain...

I cant see us getting a WC LB and Mexes in the January market. B&G will try win Serie A with minimal outlay in january, Cass for a couple million, Mexes for couple of million, Lazzari for a coule of million plus Astori's card. Then we'll probs see either Coentrao for 15 - 20 million or Tiawo on a free, a deal put in place while G's in Brazil just now being finalised and maybe a bargain WC star from Real or Man City.

We could really do with Mexes in this window and it would improve our chances of winning the Scudetto.

Apart from Nesta and Silva he is better than all our other defenders so us getting him would be an upgrade to their replacements.

just seen the article on milannews saying that mexes rejected the purposed 4 year extension with roma..this is very good news for us, most likely meaning we have a good chance of getting him this month..they can keep borriello and forget the loan deal with him..

i like mexes because he is very good with the ball at his feet, he is a comfortable dribbler and good passer. this is very important for a CB in a top quality team.

defensively he can't be worse than bonera

Mexes isn't a bad sub, I'd prefer someone younger (Sakho) personally. He'd be better than Boner for sure. Just don't sign him on a super long contract, 2-3 years tops. And if Nesta does retire soon, we should bring in another CB in the summer.

mmhmm. i would've liked this to happen, but since Ely seems to have made his milan move official (seemed like it happened a long time ago though) idk what management plans to do now. are they gonna depend on Ely to be like super awesome in primavera and promote him to senior squad soon? if so, then this would be a reason that they're following mexes. cuz, it'll be Nesta, Silva at the back with Mexes as a sub. however, if Nesta does not renew then idk...cuz we'd be left with Silva and Mexes....kinda the reason i wanted Sakho instead of Mexes. even if Ely is that good, we'd still need another CB in the summer. then when Ely is ready, we get rid of Mexes.

Ely is only 17, if he can play for the senior squad, he'd be one of the youngest players to do. I doubt he's ready though because while he has been training with us for the past year, he hasn't been playing at all. Now that he can play with the primavera hopefully we can see more about him. That said, unless he's amazing he probably won't play for the senior team until 2012 at the earliest.

If Nesta retires and we buy Mexes and Sakho we'd be in good shape but we would need a 4th CB just in case (Papa).

However if Nesta decides to play another year (which is the most I would think he would do), we'd have to hold off on getting one of Mexes or Sakho otherwise they'd both be on the bench a lot.

Ely is only a new buy for the primavera, nothing else. The board don't have any plan for him, this is not an issue of the first team. A club like Milan can't wait for youngsters that maybe someday will be good. If in 2 or 3 years he became good, thats amazing, he will be one more player. If not, that will not harm Milan.
