The old adage:
"Mess with the bull, you get the horns"
"Mess with the bull, you get the horns"
How is that unprofessional? He signed a contract till 2012
they could have sold him for 7-8 mil in summer, they wanted 15, didn't get it.
Now they will get 2-3 mil in january or he'll walk for free
It's their decision. Poor business gamble by fiorentina, thinking they could get more money or an extension. Their loss.
A lot of teams have done similar mistakes. Nothing unprofessional about it.
A lot of guys like Ozil, Sahin and Affeley had to be sold at very low prices to Real/Barca cos last year of contract and they did not sign extensions.
Looking at Pirlo's contributions last 2 years I would have been delighted if we didn't let him go for free and sold his ass to Chelsea when they came knocking.
Wrong.
They didn't accept offers because they didn't get any offers they liked. They should sell him for less than they want? WHY? didn't you lambast Kaka for this very thing?
So, Fiorentina gambled they could get an extension, and lost. Now they will sell him for pennies on the dollar to what they initially wanted or he'll walk for free.
It's their decision.
No one forced Montolivo to sign this contract.
argue here, argue there... I don't give a rat's ass. Montolivo is coming to Milan, and that's awesome.

I said (pre-ban) Monto wouldnt arrive this summer.
And I'll extend that to Monto not coming this Winter either...
I believe Milan will sign someone worthwhile, but don't think it'll be Montolivo... Just a gut feeling
I hate situations like this, I think the clubs and players should be able to come to an agreement where the player signs a new contract on the agreement he's sold the next summer.
Contracts
If we end up paying around 15M for Aqua, monto, and norino. essentially 3(new crop) azzuri players.
That would be a master stroke by Galliani.

And then (if only) DDR, then you got Italia midfield for the next 3-4 years playing as one, can only be good.
can you imagine if DDR came for free and montolivo for like 3 mil in january. 9 mil combine for montolivo, aquilani, ddr.
That'd be unfair.
That combo is the makings of an awesome midfield.

Aquilani
Nocerino - De Rossi - Montolivo
All Italian and pretty good if I say so myself
3 for Noce
monty contribution for isla's goal
Read in some Brazilian sources that Arsenal did find an agreement for him to January.
NOOOO not arsenal
When a relationship turns sour it is rarely a comfortable thing. Awkward silences, accusing glances and bitter recrimination are usually the order of the day. And things are getting that kind of messy between Fiorentina and Riccardo Montolivo.
This was the summer of the great transfer-that-never-was. The former Viola skipper let it be known that he would not be signing a new contract and wanted to consider other offers. The trouble was, they never came or they failed to meet the club's aspirations.
At first, it looked like they might come to some kind of uneasy compromise. A new contract was in the air until patience ran out with the apparently want-away star. Fiorentina officials finally threw up their hands in despair like an Italian Mamma when her boy won't eat his pasta.
A decent opening day win over Bologna papered over the cracks, but a disappointing display in Udine let the jeers commence. Sinisa Mihajlovic chose to play his troubled star despite his "difficult" situation. The travelling Tuscan support were much less forgiving.
It's a shame that things have come to this. Montolivo has been a fine servant of the club and put in some memorable performances over the years. Unfortunately, whether it is true or not, the perception is that his mind is firmly on pastures new every time he takes to the pitch. An unwilling assist for an Udinese goal on Sunday did little to help his cause.
Many in Florence believe he already has a deal - or a promise of one - lined up for January, leaving the Florentine outfit with a conundrum. Do you play a man who is an undoubted talent but will probably move to one of your rivals in the not-too-distant future? Most supporters believe the answer should be no.
The atmosphere has now become more poisonous than some deadly woodland mushroom. Some think the player has been shabbily treated after years of outstanding service. Others reckon that he should be left to rot in the stands until his contract runs out.
The trouble is that neither making him play nor putting him in internal exile seems like any kind of answer. It seems a shame to deprive him of the chance to play football - but what kind of performances can he turn in for a club he hopes to leave? It all makes for pretty sordid viewing.
Maybe he can be given out on loan or some kind of peace can be restored - although that seems unlikely. Instead, the frosty relationship between player, club and supporters looks likely to be maintained. It could be an awfully long time until January for everyone concerned.
