Ancelotti buoyant after landmark victory
Carlo Ancelotti celebrated his 400th match on the AC Milan bench in the best possible way as the Rossoneri won 4-1 at Bologna FC to remain third in Serie A, six points behind leaders FC Internazionale Milano, and convinced their coach to admit his side "can win the Scudetto if we keep playing with the same intensity".
European honours
The 49-year-old Ancelotti, who joined Milan in 2001 before leading the Rossoneri to UEFA Champions League glory in 2003 and 2007, is second in longevity on the Rossoneri bench only to Nereo Rocco, who coached Milan in 459 games during the 1960s and 70s. "I am happy to have celebrated my 400th match with a great win," he said. "I don't say I want to be Milan coach for another 400 games but I would surely like to match the great Rocco at least."
Scudetto goal
At the Dall'Ara Stadium, Bologna took an early lead through Serie A leading scorer Marco Di Vaio but Milan responded with Clarence Seedorf, Kaká (2) and a first goal by David Beckham in the Rossoneri shirt sealing an impressive victory. "We showed balance, quality and confidence, so if we maintain this level of intensity, I think we can win the Scudetto," said Ancelotti, whose side will face Werder Bremen in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 next month. "This is the right path to achieve success. Today we played our best away game of the season. We are very efficient because we can make the most of Pato and Kaká's pace. The love our fans showed to Kaká this week gave him even more enthusiasm and strength."
Beckham delight
The Brazilian attacking midfielder, who reportedly turned down a world record offer to join Manchester City FC earlier in the week, added: "I'm very glad to have helped the team with two goals. We are showing the consistency we were lacking in the second part of 2008. We are showing great signs of improvement. I'm also glad about Beckham's first goal with Milan. David is giving a great contribution and I hope he can stay as long as possible with us. He is a great professional and you could see how happy we all were when he scored. We have to continue like this without slowing down and we can earn great results this season."
