I didn't think he was an absolute disaster

Better than the disaster that is Abate. The only thing Abate had going for him was his pace, but he can't even keep up with Insigne anymore

He has never impressed me at left back, sure he can fill in when needed. But he has shown plenty of promise at right back, I hope he makes that position his when Abate loses that position soon.

He is not a left back but got better as the game went on. Made one very crucial tackle.

Give him time.

His positioning is awful :fp:

:fp: you clearly haven't watched the kid long enough :fp: Many football experts already rated him higher than De Sciglio

You guys have way too high expectations for a player who has what, 15 games down?

Every game he shows great things and bad things. No shit, he's young and plays defense. This homie leads the team in tackles almost every time he walks on the field, and he generally offers more to the attack. That alone is enough reason to give him a couple seasons and work with him. Basically, he has good technique on both sides of the ball and he needs to refine his positioning and reading of the game. Those are traits that come with experience. And don't rule out his injuries. For a young player, really any player, coming back after several months out and being played on the opposite side isn't easy. He's obviously raw and could fail, but he's showed easily enough to be given time. If you're expectations are higher you need to reevaluate

Calabria gets shitted on because a) he's average and b) he isn't at the same high level as our other Primavera talents. DES, Donna & Loca set the bar extremely high by walking straight into the first team and making a name for themselves with great performances. Calabria meanwhile has been given the same opportunity and has been nothing more than mediocre at best. It doesn't take a genius to figure out he's not a special player.

I also get tired when I hear Galliani boasting about how great our Primavera is because we have 7 youth talents in the first team. In reality, we have 3 great players (DES, Donna, Loca), 2 solid backups (Abate, Antontelli), an unknown (but highly rated) Plizzari and a totally average Calabria. I also think there's better youth players than him playing elsewhere (e.g. Felicioli who's a starting LB in Serie B and part of the "Milan Gold" project).

Yep. He definitely is a rightback so I don't ever want to see him on the left again. His positioning in both attacking and defensive phases of the game has been very good and he certainly looks like our best fullback in the offensive phase of the game. Looking forward to seeing his combination with Suso build.

Great run at the moment. I love how we are handling him. The best way to handle developing youth is this - less pressure, sporadic runs of matches.

Good game, but wouldn't play him against Inter... he cracks under too much pressure.

No reason why in 2 years he cant be a player like Zappacosta or Darmian. Good talent, technically very good, can pass with calm, cross also with left foot when needed. Give him time, he could be a really good fullback!

Support and forza!!

His tackling rates are insane. Really incredible, I'm surprised nobody really talks about this. He averages about 4 times as many tackles per game as our other defenders, and some games gets almost ten tackles. Ridiculous.
