More famous for his exploits in the USA four years later, but it was 1990 – and this goal – that brought ‘Il Divin Codino’ to the attention of the world. Although without his trademark long locks at this stage, the sublime close control, balance and deft finishing are trademark Baggio. Picking up the ball in his own half the then Fiorentina man, who had already agreed to join Juventus, played a one-two with Giuseppe Giannini before making a beeline straight for goal. Several Czech defenders attempted to intervene but there was to be no stopping the 23-year-old as he embarked upon a run that would see him score the goal of the tournament.

Yes, this is very wonderful !

By the way, the last Czech defender had played in Chinese Serie A between 1996-98.

Brescia Coach Mario Somma has made the shock revelation that he’s trying to tempt Roberto Baggio out of retirement.

The Italian legend ended his stunning career with the Lombard club in the summer of 2004, but Somma is ready to offer him the chance of a sensational return.

“We can’t sign someone like Luca Toni, who is tied to Fiorentina, but we could certainly have a go at Baggio,” he declared.

“If things go in a certain direction for us this season, then why couldn't we convince Baggio to again wear the Brescia shirt?”

So intent of having the opportunity to boss the Divine Ponytail, Somma is ready to shelve his preferred tactical plans.

"I made a vow never to play a trequartista behind the strikers, but I'd make an exception for Baggio,” he added.

“Football is about emotion and to bring Baggio back to the club would create a great wave of emotion amongst our fans."

However, the chances of seeing Baggio – who appeared in three World Cups for the Azzurri – return seem slim if not impossible.

Baggio hasn’t kicked a ball since he retired from the game and he’ll celebrate his 40th birthday on February 18.

It's all talk it wont happen. Though in saying that I'd love it if he came back. To watch him play has always been a pleasure. He is the closet to even reach Maradona's level IMO injury cut him short of becoming even greater.

I've only seen one picture of Il Divin Codino smiling. God how I miss him . Rose Bowl '94 will be in my heart forever, but the joy of the previous 4 weeks by far eclipses it.
