A deep look at River's relegation, despite the Promedio system. Which was set up exactly to prevent this happening.

All kinds of stuff involved - Sporting to thuggery.

http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/argieb...-argentine-football-sinks-the-unsinkable.aspx

This article miss the bigger point. The relation with the Barras is questionable for a lot of reasons, but they're small fish. It's easy to point to the dammed ones now, but it's barely related with River demise, specially barely related with finances, and River demise was most of all economic. The club got $90 million in debts now. No other club in Argentina owes half of it. While, as the article points, they sold a great sum in players (maybe more than everyone else in South America) while spending relatively few for new players.

What happened (along with bad management) is good part of this money never reached River Plate hands. Aguillar, altough allied with Barras, was also allied with a web of "investors" and agents. And those agents were allowed to buy "parts" of promissing River players to make huge profit from the sales to Europe in the future, agents like Fernando Hidalgo, Gustavo Arribas and Pini Zahavi.

There was a lot of shady deals going on all the time, specially at the end of Aguillar administration, involving Higuaín (Zahavi got more than half from Real Madrid payment of 13 M for him), Belluschi, Musacchio... River got way less than could get from selling his major property - the players. While making agents rich in the process.

I mean, if one is really willing to point the finger, as much as the Barras are really dangerous, criminials and maniacs, at least do it also for the most responsible ones. Do it at the sharks also.

CSKA Moscow's form could yet turn Leonid Slutsky's frown upside down
You wouldn't know it from their coach's glum demeanour, but the army side are marching towards the Russian league title

Seydou Doumbia, CSKA hit-man, the heir of Drogba for the Ivory Coast is on fire this season, 9 goals in 12 matchs in the RPL and hes only played roughly around 70 percent of the season. Overall he has about 27 goals in 34 games in all competitions since last summer.

To Russia With Love
Posted on Thursday, 7th July 2011 by Rory Hanna
The world of calcio is having an increasing influence on Russian football. Following Domenico Criscito’s transfer from Genoa to Zenit St Petersburg, the Russian Premier League is now home to four Italians – Criscito, Zenit manager Luciano Spalletti, Alessandro Rosina (returning to St Petersburg after a loan spell at Cesena) and Salvatore Bocchetti of Rubin Kazan.

Criscito, Rosina and Bocchetti are all excellent players and Serie A’s loss if Russia’s gain. But can football in ‘the motherland’ improve them as players? Will the experience make them more complete or hinder their progress?

River Plate will not use their traditional shirt next season in Primeira B. They will use one with a black strip instead of the red. The idea is to "keep" the shirt in A (la camisa no desciende - the shirt will not be relegated) so there will be no pics of their shirt in the lower division, and the black will be used to symbol the shame and sadness to play the "B".

It's a ver cynic idea, but thinking about it, it's brilliant.

Edit: My post sounds like it's official, it's not official, just an idea coming from fans.

Followed by River plate relegation, now their FA has revamped league structure.

From the 2012/13 season onwards, the first 2 divisions will be merged, and the resulting 38 teams (As, apparently, 2 teams will still be relegated from the second tier this year) will be split into 2 groups. The top 5 in each group will qualify to a "championship phase" along with the 9 clubs with the most points in a general table. The chapionship group defines the champion and those qualified for the Copa Libertadores. The remaining 19 teams will be put together to fight it out for relegation. The bottom four will be relegated.

Almost literal quote from an AFA spokesperson:

"The government pays 700m to see the best. We could promote River by law but that would be against the rules of fair play and the history of our federation (ORLY), so we'd rather change the league system to ensure the big clubs are always in the top flight".

Dempo buy stakes in Danish football club
India's leading industrial group Dempo, which also runs leading I-League football club Dempo FC, on Monday bought 34 percent stakes, worth 12 million euros, in leading Danish soccer club and academy FC Midtjylland, based in Herning and Ikast.

The deal is a long-term commercial and technical partnership between the parties, with the Dempo investment strengthening the club's capital base and in return the club providing technical know-how to Dempo.

"It's a historic day for FC Midtjylland and the start of a new era for the club. The agreement enables us to add value to the continuity of our soccer team and retain our own playing talent longer. We can enhance the level of talent development, and begin truly to internationalise the Academy", Soren Bach, CEO of FC Midtjylland, said in a statement.

Dempo Group chairman Shrinivas Dempo said the investment marks the moment when intent turned into commitment.

"It's kick-off time for the Dempo foray into truly international football. Our agreement is aimed at raising the playing standard of Indian soccer, and this tie-up with a first-rate European academy and team shall spur the development of the game even faster," said Dempo.

The deal has been facilitated and coordinated by the sports management company, New World Consulting, which will be working closely with both Midtjylland and Dempo.

UEFA banned Fenerbahce from CL.

They're probably going to 2nd division in Turkey too. They're selling all their players. Lugano went to PSG, Emenike went to CSKA, Andre Santos went to Arsenal.

No Honda = No party.

Extremely true.

Without Honda so far:

Sat 10/09/11 PRL CSKA Moskva 0 - 4 Dinamo Moskva
Thu 15/09/11 UCL Lille 2 - 2 CSKA Moskva
Sun 18/09/11 PRL Rostov 1 - 1 CSKA Moskva

They were first place by 2 or 3 points when he got injured, now they are in third :fp: People dont realize what an important asset he can be to the team.

Anzhi fires coach 1 month after signing Eto'o

MOSCOW (AP) -Russian premier league team Anzhi Makhachkala has fired its coach Gadzhi Gadzhiyev after a string of disappointing results.

A brief statement from the team on Thursday did not state the reason for the dismissal of Gadzhiyev, who took the helm in 2010.

Anzhi attracted worldwide attention in August when it signed Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o from Inter Milan for a reported nearly $29 million per season, which would make him the world's best-paid player.

But Anzhi's performance since Eto'o joined the team has been poor, with just one win from its last six matches. Anzhi is seventh in the Russian standings.

Assistant coach Andrei Gordeyev and captain Roberto Carlos will take over the coach duties on an interim basis, the club statement said.

Im gonna be watching the Porto vs Pacos Ferreira match.

Stream if anyone wants to join: http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/88584/1/watch-fc-porto-vs-ferreira.html

Line ups: http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/516369/Live

Edit: Porto leading 1:0 at HT, og by the Pacos player after some great play by Hulk. Impressed by Defour, Hulk and Fernando  and the look pretty solid at the back with Rolando and new boy Mangala.

Edit: FT, So Porto won the match 3:0, brief catch up on the goals, the first one was an own goal after a nice low driven ball across the six yard area from Hulk coming in off the left wing. It was embarrassingly put in off an attempted clearance.

The second goal came from Kleber. Moutinho waltz his way in between a few defenders and put it on a plate for James Rodriguez who's low shot came back off the post in the path of an open Kleber who smashed it in.

Third goal was nice as well, Pereira put in a low cross from the left with deflected off Kleber in the path of Moutinho, who volleyed it in the bottom corner.

The game was nice, good dominant display by Porto. Second half subs Kleber, James and Moutinho really lit the Do Dragao stadium up. Hulk was good as well but disappeared late in the second half. Fernando was a beast as usual, really hope Milan snap him up, didnt put a single foot wrong in the match. Some nice aggressive tackles and good overall game from him.

[One of the stories of the season so far]

Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer overjoyed with leading Molde to historic Norwegian first division title
The 38-year-old is jubilant after winning MFK their maiden championship in their history on Sunday and believes that it was a “well deserved” success for the club

Molde coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his delight at leading the Norwegian club to their first ever Tippeligaen title.

The club, established in 1911, accomplished their triumph on Sunday following their 2-2 draw with Stromsgodset, a result which was enough to hand them the title after Norwegian giants and second-placed Rosenborg suffered a 6-3 home loss to Brann.

New Molde Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Hopes To Return To Manage Manchester United In The FutureOle Gunnar Solskjaer Revealed He Turned Down Opportunity To Coach FC Molde To Stay At Manchester United

The results mean that Molde are now eight points clear at the top of the first division table with two more rounds of matches remaining, leaving Solskjaer overjoyed with his team’s achievement in his first season in charge.

"The club has waited 100 years for this," the 38-year-old told VG. "We have been close several times so this was well deserved.

"When Brann went 4-1 up, I realised we had done it. It was a good atmosphere in the dressing room and we will enjoy ourselves tonight."

Solskjaer became Molde coach in January 2011 after two and a half years as manager of Manchester United Reserves.

Very MAJOR achievement for Babyface. Historic.

Way back when I was still neutral about Manure he was one of the faces I saw as representative of the club..then there was Dwight Yorke, and at a point, even Barthez.

Really liked his hair. 'Loved' is the word actually. :star:

Hopefully they'll represent Norway properly in the UCL next season. Congrats man!!
