According to Piers, it was officially from United. It has Rio Ferdinand written all over it. He's always having banter with Piers Morgan, loves twitter and is probably RVP's best mate at United. Plus he's a major WUM.

It could actually be a negative. Phil Neville joining is great, since SAF has been planning for years to take the Bayern approach where the club is full of ex players. Scholes, Butt, Giggs are coaches, Brian McClair is head of the academy, Yorke and Cole have free licence to help with coaching any day they want, Schmeichel is often there with a training kit on plus there's about 20 others.

Hopefully Rene Mulenstean stays as RVP + the players love him - he worked with Cleverley + Welbeck back when they were 12 years old. Eric Steele has a really close relationship with DDG too and could have helped when Barca/Madrid come sniffing.

No one really has a clue what Mike Phelan offered though, other than looking amazing in his shorts + popping balloons.

Like I said - Liverpool are silly. Carragher has been keeping better players out of the team for years.

Skrtel had a difficult year, but I reckon he's ready to have that 28-32 CB peak if he gets a change of scene and the right partner. Solid player. Would fit nicely with Zapata.

A couple of years ago, exactly. He was an up-coming star defender, but the perceived potential hasn't materialized.

That said, he's still pretty young, plenty of time to flourish into a top defender.

Liverpool's defence hasn't been the same since they lost Benitez, Mascherano and Alonso. Defensive manager, defensive midfielder and a world class deep CM covered up the fact that they haven't had a great defence for a while.
