"Ancelotti: Bring back Sheva!
Saturday 12 May, 2007
Carlo Ancelotti has come out into the open, confirming, “Milan will do everything possible to bring back Andriy Shevchenko.”

The Ukrainian demanded a £30m transfer to Chelsea last summer after seven years at San Siro, but has not settled in at Stamford Bridge and has now denied telling ‘The Sun’ that he is happy in London.

“Adriano Galliani made our position very clear,” commented Ancelotti in today’s Press Conference.

“It remains a difficult operation financially, even if Milan will do everything possible to bring him back. He is owned by Chelsea and their intentions are the main factor here.”

The Rossoneri have always said they’ll keep the door open for a shock comeback and have even invited Shevchenko to Athens as their guest for the Champions League Final against Liverpool on May 23.

He is not the only star linked to the club this week, as rumours of a split between Ronaldinho and Barcelona are hotting up.

“Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldinho and Shevchenko are three world-class players who would improve any squad,” added the Coach.

“Franck Ribery is also a player I like very much. He is a dynamic figure and had a great World Cup.”

They must qualify for the Champions League before making big money signings and that means securing a top four finish in Serie A.

“We have to focus on the League and sealing our position so it’s not a problem on our minds ahead of Athens.”

This Sunday they visit Catania, who will have their fans back in the stands after a ban was overturned for the first time since February, but it will be on neutral turf at Bologna’s Stadio Dall’Ara.

“Catania will be extremely motivated and love to play good football, so their best characteristics are in attack. It will also be a 15.00 kick-off, so very hot and a draining game.

“Massimo Ambrosini is doing quite well, but we don’t think it is opportune to risk him, so Yoann Gourcuff will take his place. Everyone else is fine, including Paolo Maldini, who trained all week and I think he will play.”

Ronaldo is out with a thigh strain and is not expected to play again this season, as he only resumed light running on Friday.

“We will field two strikers and a Trequartista. It’ll be either Alberto Gilardino or Pippo Inzaghi, not both together.”

It is reported that Alessandro Nesta is considering retirement from the Italian national squad.

“He must make his own considerations. It’s true the fixture list is increasingly packed for internationals, but I think that Nesta will reflect on it and return to the Azzurri, because is the best defender around.”
