Again a performance where we see that Bacca in a 1-striker system doesn't work. He was perfect in Mihas 4-4-2 last season but his characteristic doesn't suit at all in a system with 1x CF.

For me Bacca still is an excellent striker, but because of his limitations one that can't perform without a SS covering his back, holding balls to make the team advance on the pitch, convert the many crosses we play in the box etc.

He needs another striker to deal with the defenders for him, he needs midfielders and wingers to put goals on a silver platter for him, he can't do anything without both of those criteria fulfilled for him. He needs to gtfo

That's exactely what Niang did last season and why they worked so well when played together

Montella did right by changing the formation to 1 striker for the good of the team, but it makes one wonder how many more points we'd have with a striker that can play in our current formation. If we had even a half-decent striker capable of playing by himself today we would have won the derby, there is no doubt in my mind.

13 goals so far in Serie A and sets up Zapata for the equalizer today. We have many players that need to be shipped out before Bacca.

A Kalinic type of forward would be perfect for Montella

13 goals. That's enough for the first striker in a 10th place target team.

Amoroso or Bacca? Who was better?

When we won the Scudetto Ibra scored 14 goals :proud:

2 striker formation. He assisted almost as much as he scored. Also helped that his partners in attack all could score so he didn't have to. Bacca's job is just scoring, doesn't have to worry about anything else that Ibra has to worry about, and he's still not doing his job as he should.

When you're alone up front against two (or three) central defenders, they can deal with you a lot easier. It doesn't help that Bacca can't really be effective drop deep, which is a great way to deal with this problem by forcing the defenders to decide whether to track or stay back. He is lethal when he has space. Only way he can have much space is if another attacker occupies the spare man, which is why Bacca always looks MUCH more effective when Lapadula joins him.

Lapadula alone up front has the same problems. It's not an issue of who plays, its the fact that when their defenders have a spare man it will always be difficult for whoever is our striker.

The problem is that when you give up a player to have two up front, you lose your own advantage. 4312 is extremely vulnerable on the flanks. 442 is vulnerable centrally. 352 is a great compromise but hard to pull off unless you have the right players, but our current great advantage is our wingers and for that we force them to play wingback.

If we keep playing 433 Bacca will always suffer. Doesn't mean he's crap. The system punishes him. He could do much better for sure, but play 4312 and he'll double his goals easily but it will break the team.

Even the world's best forwards would struggle in this team. Some of you on here talk like he is playing for Real or Bayern and struggling to score. We have an awful midfield and that has to be our first priority.

We certainly do Sosa, Lapadula, Niang, Montolivo, Bertolacci etc

Well niang is gone. The rest could stay as backups, we need a bench after all.
With bacca on the field we basically play without a striker.

He's finished, his pace he once had is all but gone. He was like a hungover 37 year old playing Sunday league football in my local park yesterday .

He will score against the palermosame of this world where we are already 3.0 up
