He would be a great addition fro next season the guy is a very good CB all he needs is to change teams just like it happened with Lucio he sucked @ Bayern for a couple of seasons and was sold as a finished material but then exploded at inter !

I would have loved for us to have got Lucio, especially for the money supposedly paid... Ah well... Although, I dont think I could handle all the falling over he does, for a big guy he sure does go down easily

Mexes isn't the player he was a couple of seasons ago, but he was one of Italiy's most relaible defenders, and was supposed to be on his way our of Roma a couple of times... I'm not sure what has happened to him, maybe a change of scene is whats needed, but I'd rather we went for a younger defender, one that could be Nesta's heir for a long time to come... If he was cheap, and didn't want silly wages though, he'd be good back up. He's better than Gooch, and who knows if Yepes will be around after this season...

he's worst than kaladze, not professional , no work ethic

he had only one good season in Rome.. and there will be a reason if 2 coaches bench him instead of burdisso.. not piquè..

we have to buy coates.. i hope montelongo is a part of that deal.. they have the same manager

lucio was paid 7 mln only because his wage is 5mln for 4 season.. 47 millions gross until 2014.. when he will be 36 years old.. bayern is not dumb

after what kaladze did to us (althou finally he did leave for good), i wouldnt say mexes is worst than kaladze. but yea, bad enough if burdisso is ahead of him, not that i have anything against burdisso

Mexes to Milan is a story I read for almost a decade... it is too late now, he should have joined 5 years ago, not now.

I wouldn't mind if he comes for cheap. I think he can be a good backup CB, better than Bonera, Gooch, and Yepes.

there was a time when i used to like him...
and then i saw this.

dont care how fast Pato is, or did you came back from an injury...this is not something you allow to happen and then cry how you want to be a starter... accept your low quality.

By your logic Vidic is pathetic too then i guess after getting ripped apart with Torres' pace game after game.

Come on guys lets not push it by saying Sokratis is better than Mexes. He hasn't done anything till date to prove it and Mexes , at 29 has another good 4 years in him atleast i would think as he has never been about the pace. He will be a very good 3rd CB if we get him but if Sokratis proves his worth this season then that's the best result obviously.

I'd rather we went for Miranda over Mexes...

what's mexes doing here in this thread, we shouldn't even consider him as a real transfer.
he's no TS or Nesta, even sokratis is better...and mexes wouldn't make our squad any younger

what happened with him in the roma game ...just saw people restraining him because he wanted to fight with the ref ...anyone know?

he made a perfectly normal (legal) tackle OUTSIDE of the penalty box and linesman is looking in the stand or something and said he was inside the penalty box and it was a foul. So, he gave up a PK, was yellow carded, told the ref hes blind and got another one.

if we get mexes for free.. i'll accept

We will! In the summer..

I personally would love the signing. Not a starter but he can provide better backup than Papa Bonera etc for sure.

Another thing is he is a proper backup for Nesta as he is a leader on the pitch and knows how to organize the defence which in the absence of Nesta, T. Silva does not know how to do!

Not a single post in this thread?

He still haven't extended his contract (expires next summer) at Roma. Sensi said they are talking but they still haven't closed the deal. She knows Milan is interested.

Roma only have 2 days to extend his contract or Mexes has the possibility to talk with every club that he wants to and negotiate about a free transfer for next summer.

If he doesn't extend we clearly are the favourites to bring him in.

I love it :)

Mexes said he still hasn't had a proposal to extend but his intention is to stay at Roma.
He left for new year & says there is time to talk with the club.

So from tomorrow on every club can approach him.

According to some websites Roma is looking into the option of signing Barzagli from Wolfsburg. His contract also expires next summer and his agent has said he wants to return to Italy this month.

Roma, Barzagli.
Milan, Mexes.

Where can i put my signature?

Translated:

Barzagli's agent said: "The Roma have not contacted me - he confessed - but there is some possibility that my seen leaving the Wolfsburg. I can only say that something is moving around him and that would support an eventual return to Italy. You see? "

The thought is Roma would sell Mexes to Milan if they don't reach an agreement and use money to get Barzagli. It's a possibility in january, but my guess would be end of window

The Giallorossi’s financial predicament – holding company UniCredit with final say on transfers and contract negotiations – also increases the significance that Philippe Mexes’ contract is another due to expire. Interestingly, it was reported back in November that the bank had green-lit an extension to the defender’s contract, offering €12m across four years.

However, the player has denied this more recently and in between statements claiming his primary wish is to stay in the capital, the 28-year-old has also failed to rule out leaving. Director Daniele Prade says Mexes has told them he is waiting on the club’s ownership issue to be resolved before deciding his destination, one that could be any of the peninsula’s big three, or the Premier League. The Gazzetta dello Sport reported this week Mexes’ demands were as high as €5m a season.

Mexes could walk for free in summer. I wonder if those wages are pre or post tax. I can't imagine it's post tax cause that'd be more than Nesta, Silva and co. and I don't think Roma pays anyone in that range except Totti or maybe De Rossi. Also because the bank is giving them 12 mil for it, that'd clearly by money towards tax too....

But pre-tax which would make it more like 2 mil or 2.5 mil, thats fair and probably going rate for a CB of his level

Its for sure pre-tax, as you said only Totti and De Rossi make that in Roma, and cause gazzetta's figures are post tax and 2-2.5 mil is more or less what he does.

Borriello makes more than Totti :D And Adriano had a nice salary as well IIRC.

the way i see it is, we have been fallowing mexes for several season now, and haven't been able to acquire him..with us sending borriello over to them at the seasons start, he could very well be our proverbial foot in the door to getting mexes..with roma being broke and getting worse every season, they would be saving money ditching mexes to us...mexes, at times, can be a little off, but nonetheless, a solid defender and that can't be denied..
