Look, this will not be easy, no doubt about it. Our last win at the Olimpico was in season 04/05 (Crespo and Pirlo penalty). Then we had 2 wins and 3 draws.
Roma is 6th at the table with 59 points, with Lazio in 4th (60 points) and Udinese in 5th (59 points) above them. Now Lazio and Udinese will face each other next week. Roma knows that a win for them vs Milan and a favorable result at the Friuli might take them to the 4th spot and land them that holy grail of qualifying for UCL next season. So they will be so fired up.
If our players will go to the field thinking "well, let's just save our energy for the Copa game vs Palermo then win it at the San Siro vs Cagliari in front of our fans", then there's no use playing for this game. Let's just field the whole Primavera team and let them notch senior team appearances. Another display of relax attitude like after Flamini goal will be monstrosity and total embarassment.
I hope this acidic stance will not be the attitude of our team. WE CAN STILL LOSE THE SCUDETTO. Ambrosini said they will be idiots if Milan were to lose the scudetto, so let's show some guts and spirit. Win this and worry about the Copa later.
Many were (correctly) thinking that Copa is also important but let's just take one game at a time. Field the best team vs Roma. If we win this game, don't you think the players will be more fired up to win the Copa game because they know the double is within reach? They will give more push and dig from their reserve to somehow find the energy to do it.
Remember 02/03 season? Milan just won the CL Final vs Juve and few days later we had to face Roma in the 2nd leg of the Copa Italia final at the San Siro. The players were definitely exhausted but that didn't stop the likes of Nesta, Maldini, Kaladze, Gattuso, Seedorf, Rui Costa and Inzaghi (all played in the Manchester game) to give another fine performance. They wanted the cup double and wanted to win in front of the home fans. I didn't see any sign of tiredness from the players mentioned above. That's guts, that's spirit, that's Milan!
We had van Bommel and Ibra back, this would be a big boost since both Robinho and Cassano are too similar and prefer to create chance from outside the box and would have no one inside the box.
Abbiati
Abate, Nesta, T. Silva, Zambrotta
Flamini, Seedorf, van Bommel, Boateng
Robinho, Ibra
What's the status of Gattuso? Is he fit, if yes then he should be in for Flamini.
