The passing skill of J.Mauri is imo at the same level as Bertolacci and Poli and worse than Montolivo. Based on what he showed last few games, he's definitely not an upgrade.

Unless he steps up his game, he'll always be a backup to Montolivo (worse passing) or Kucka (worse defensive work). While in a formation with 3 midfielders, we definitely need a better passer to make it work (Kucka passing is also subpar and you can't have more than one destroyer with bad passing skills in that formation) or you'll end up like Inter this year.

The friendlies at the beginning of next season will show whether he'll be able to play any role in next season.

I like this guy. And his perfomances with Empoli has been good. Reminds me something of a Kucka kind of player. I think he can become better at mezz'ala than his current CDM position
