He was too defensive.

I think it's a bit unfair to completely put the tactics on him. They went 2-0 up and then sat back, but would still be 3-1 up if Higuain hadn't bottled his hattrick chance.

Higuain missed a penalty.

It's not the IF game, it's the "it would have been 3-1 if Higuain hadn't missed his second penalty of the game on the final kick of the half"
