Was Attackingcm at youth level Milan|Montolivo era style has given negative habits. In his debut games more vertical passing then adopted the negative\passing when he became more established in the first team.

I think we should have a buy back clause.

Such a fallacy. Is Bonaventura an Italian international? Is Borini? So Cristante and Verdi would have been a better investment considering we were finishing in 10th-6th place all these years? Exactly. And before anyone says "we are Milan, we don't wait for talent", well apparently we're only Milan when we have money. Smart patient investment in youth is how you dig yourself out of a hole, something our mgmt and fans like yourself weren't willing to do out of arrogance.

Second, we didn’t give up on Cristante. He wanted to leave in search for a starting spot. The transfer fee funded Bonaventuras move to Milan. Cristante was not at all ready to start for Milan then, and Bona has been one of our best signings in the last 5 yrs.
That making space for Bonaventura, a player we all want gone, is your best argument... you lack vision. Its OK, so did Galliani. You have the foresight of a geriatric man. Congrats!

Young players need to be good enough to start in their early 20s, otherwise it doesn’t make sense for big clubs to hold on to them. It doesn’t make sense for them either. They need to start somewhere so that they can improve. Like Cristante has now done.
Lol, the fallacy here is defining ourselves as a Big Club. A bit of humility is in order. Big clubs have big money and win big trophies. If neither of those parameters are being met, then its best to stop holding yourself in such high regard.

He wasn't in his early 20's lol, nor was Cristante, nor Darmian. They were all about 18-19. We made average players the pillars of the club and wouldn't give time to our most talented youngsters who in the end proved our management wrong by ending up on BETTER teams than Milan.

Clubs looking to win can’t afford to have youngsters learning the ropes slowing them down. If that means potentially spending a larger amount in getting them back many years later, that’s fine. Football transfers aren’t neat, mathematical systems like FM makes it out to be.
Every club is looking to win lol. Some know they can win immediately and gamble on the short term, others know they can't win right away and invest in their future. Milan's management didn't know what they were trying to do, lol and neither do you.

Excellent post that pretty much sums up how I would have respond.

It's amazing after Gallani ran the club into the ground that people readily accept his telling of how the Cristante sale went down.

Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari got 29 games between the two of them the season after Cristante was sold, and we finished in 10th.

This is part of a larger negative trend, we went from being a CL Winner to a mid table club (and hopefully we are finally on the rebound), and during that time we have lost PEA, Darmian, Sokratis, Cristante, Verdi, etc (hell, Saponara was a key player on a team that only finished 7 points behind us, and Rodrigo Ely was a starter in La Liga), all while adding multiple older has beens to fill their roster spots.

You could take the players we gave up on and we'd be in a much better place.

I dont get the arrogance of fans that seem to have blacked out the past 5 or so years and all the mismanagement that caused/came with it.

Not happy.

Surely a loan deal somewhere in Serie A could be found. To sell him permanently is likely to be a mistake.

Terrible move here. 12m? Wow do we undervalue our talented youths whereas we overpay for other unproven players... typical old style milan under galliani... this sale with NO option to buyback is prime to bite us in the ass just like cristante, just like Damian, just like verdi. Welcome back to the milan of old... so dumb. Even the silva deal was bad. So far there has been only 1 good move this offseason

Bad move, but I guess it makes sense with Elliot's 3 year plan. They don't have the time to wait... and are trying to cash in on whoever is possible, in order to finance other moves.

I think he clearly wanted to leave permanently.

Sassuolo would have accepted a buy-back, Locatelli wouldn't. Loads of teams would have accepted a loan, Locatelli wouldn't.

That's not blaming him, it's a fairly smart move on his part.

Going by the rumours he definitely didn't want to be loaned. Either play him or sell him. I think Sassuolo would have accepted a buy-back as well. I wonder why Locatelli wouldn't.

If only Sassuolo had some good talents so that at least we would have first rights on them for giving them such a good deal on Locatelli.

His farewell post showed that he's clearly pissed with Milan.

Don't understand why he was so against a buyback option. Oh well fuck him...
