It was just one of those games. We could have been 3-0 up at halftime. The important thing is we played well and attacked all game. Piatek scored. Hakan did great. There are a lot of positives and reasons to be hopeful. Conti needs to be sent to the reserves and shipped out in January. Huge mistake not replacing him in the summer.

Agree, people here are so reactionary. Season isn't even 1/3 of the way over

Tbf who could have foreseen Calabria having a mid life crisis

We've tried him there once or twice in an emergency when chasing and it wasn't great. I also felt like he hated it. I said this is the game thread, but I'd play Musa there when Caldara comes back. We are essentially playing 3 at the back when attacking, so might as well do that.

I think replacing Suso with another midfielder and just playing a 4141, would be best. He slows down every attack, he sends in aimless crosses and is predictable, he loses the ball constantly, and can't hold onto it when we need him to.

I'd love to bring Bakayoko back, let him and Kessie destroy everything, put Bennacer in front of them, then Hakan and Paqueta as two free roaming attacking mids to create chaos with Theo bombing up the left to join up with Leao.

I hope if Piatek can get form, then a 4312 would be our future. Playing Leao and Piatek together with Hakan behind them. Hakan looks so much better further forward.

Judging from the last nights game it feels that 4-3-1-2 with Hakan in the hole is our best formation, but isnt it funny that we are looking into it now when we fired our 4-3-1-2 specialist coach :)
It just doesnt make any sense that Hakan didnt get the chance to play behind strikers for Giampaolo... He is the prototype of no 10 for his system. Good technique, works hard, presses high...
Probable cause for this (and GP firing) was Suso. Marco put all his eggs in Suso basket and he paid for it. If we managed to sell Suso this summer i think it would be a whole different story now... We would probably sign another midfielder and GP would have to play Hakan or Paqueta at no 10. No need to toss entire preseason preparation after one game and go back to 4-3-3 to make Suso feel at home again

Exactly. The players just need to be more clinical and cut out the silly individual mistakes that cost the team. From the 1st minute the team was creating chances. After the first goal we continued to look positive. That at least was encouraging.

I see it like you. Glass is half full.

Pioli regenerated Hakan and made Piatek score. We created - like really created - more goal wcoring opportunities in the first 30 minutes than in 7 games before that. And we were able to finally show a reaction after conceeding. What else can we ask from him? As Pioli said: expecting perfection agter some days of training is unrealistic. What we saw was way better than I would have expected to be perfectly honest with you guys.

The problem wasn’t this game. As brk said, it was one of those games where you could lead 3:0 at halftime but then you gift a pen out of nothing, save it (!) and still conceed. You manage to react to that only to get the draw with an absolute stunner of an eurogoal in the 92th minute this guy who scored it will never score again in his entire football career but against us he does, of course...

The problem were the 3 months before that game where we weren’t playing anywhere nesr to our standards and comprimized our entire season already...

We still have to remember, all positives aside, we played against the worst side in Serie A at San Siro. We need to be rational and be honest that this game should have been a 100% win. Tears of joy seeing our Milan play the way we did yesterday, but my whole week has been ruined because of the result.

Lets just hope this was a similar result to Gattusos lost points against Benevento...

Suso, I swear to God if I had any power in this world the first thing I'd do would be to put him an a MMA cage and let Nate Diaz deal with him.

I wouldn't expect to see this 433/3241 hybrid against tough opposition but its a really great weapon against smaller sides that we had trouble with before. We can control the game with three at the back, make sure we stretch really wide with Theo and Suso, and a double pivot of Kessie and Bennacer (hopefully) can clean up. Piatek surrounded by red shirts will open up space for him like with his goal yesterday. Hakan and Paqueta between the lines with freedom to go anywhere is a nightmare for any stretched defense.

I think Leao works better against top opposition where we can run at them into space, and Piatek against smaller sides where we will keep crossing and every inch of space in the box matters.

Waiting for Caldara because I don't trust Conti or Calabria in that RB/RCB spot. Hopefully he tries Duarte at least in the next game. If I remember correctly he used to play as a right back at some points in Brazil.

I'd like to see Calabria under Pioli.

Under GP pretty much the whole team looked shit.

We could have been 2 points ahead had we won against the worst side in Serie A.

The thing we need to understand is we have some potentially. WC attackers on our hand. Intact I would like to see a formation that uses both of them.

Piatek is only good for scoring goals, we know of his limitations, so he needs to be good at the one thing he is good at. Tbh he is an excellent 1 touch finisher, I would say that is his best asset, everything else borders on alright, ok, farcical.

Leao offers far more than Piatek does as a player. Leao general play is good, rarely loses the ball and does the simple things well. And then there is the magic aspect Leao brings. Leao also pulls off being languid better than Piatek also.

Leao needs to holla at C dot and teach him to shoot across the keeper, aim for the far post.

true, leao cost us this game like piatek before.;)
difference is leao is younger and have everything except finishing (hope he will work on it) when piatek is just finisher.
because of that leao is useful around the box and do his work when piatek is just meh.
if leao finishing isnt good enough (coach call based on training) he should be piatek partner in attack for some time.

Milan have gained 10 points in their first eight league games: the last time the Rossoneri have less was the 2012/13, season ended with a third place.
It’s coming home boys and girls, I’ll catch y’all at champions league final next year. #FORZA MILAN

Allegri was a beast that season. I have no idea how the hell he got us third place. That season we had one of the worst squads we've had in the last decade but still the best football we played in the last 10 years. And who can forget that 2-0 win over Barcelona.

Lets hope Pioli can replicate what Allegri did

Look only at Suso during those 25 seconds. Why is he walking away from Calderoni and the other Lecce player, leaving Conti totally alone and unattended with 2 players? (You could also make a case that it was actually 3 players)

As much as I don't like him (and I believe he's still inferior to Suso), I'm more than convinced that Castillejo would've tracked Calderoni down and prevented him from shooting. Or in the slightest, he would've made the effort to run back and TRY to close him down. Suso didn't even try, not at all.

Unfortunately, Castillejo was suspended for the game.

Suso just being Suso. Nothing surprising. The worst part was when we were 2-2 and we were attacking in the 94th minute. He had the ball and kept it for like 10-15 seconds, attempting his twists and turns and in the end just lost the ball. You could actually see how the entire team just became static and started to walk instead when he had the ball and did that shit. It's so obvious he drags the entire team down it's getting beyond frustrating to watch

That looks completely disorganized. Pioli has alot to work on. I'm glad though we look more fluid in our attacking

Lecce are garbage and some of their passing was worse then what I saw in high school junior varsity. Gotta step it up if we want to win vs Roma.

We have fundamental problems. A lopsided team because of Suso, unable to press, players who are either totally abysmal or terrible in decisive moments, a new coach who will require time, management that picked a loser like Giampaolo, and an uncertain future under a fund who could sell or keep but refuse to buy pieces that could complete this team. It’s a mess that is beyond formations. And perhaps beyond fixing. And even if Pioli gets it right, it may be too late.

I can’t compare it to 2012/13.
